IB EXTENDED ESSAY 11

Ms. C Wilcox Ms. S Pandher

Term 2 Comments: The Extended Essay is a component of the IB-DP involving about 40 hours of independent in-
depth study. Students have been participating in lessons to build on the EE skills (including topic exploration,
research databases, reflections and artifact collection, and notetaking and annotated bibliographies). Students
are expected to spend 2 - 3 hours weekly of independent research and submit annotated bibliographies into their
Researchers Reflection space. Although there will be guided assignments and weekly check-in's, students are
expected to take ownership of the extended essay, as it is an independent core component of the Diploma
Program.

IB FRENCH B (SL) 11 Term 2: 50% (C-)

Ms. C. Kipp

Term 2 Comments: Before the break, students completed their internal assessment (IA). This is the speaking
component of the test, and counts for 25% of their final mark. This mark is the mark that I have assigned them for
this task. As the marks need to be moderated by the IB, this is not necessarily the final mark that they will receive.
The final mark will come out with the EA marks, generally at the beginning of July.

Predicted mark is 2

Attendance: Absent: 5 Late: 3

IB GLOBAL POLITICS 11 HL Term 2: 86% (A)

Graeme Thicke

Term 2 Comments: Students were busy during the second term of Global Politics. They finished the foundational
unit, studying concepts like sovereignty, legitimacy, and interdependence, while reviewing case studies related to
each concept. Students also completed an analysis of a real-world issue in the form of a research essay to practice
for the internal assessment. To demonstrate their learning, students wrote practice exams, similar to the final IB
exams they will have at the end of year 2. During the final term, students will have the opportunity to explore
human rights and the impact they have had locally and globally.

Most students are engaged in the course content, but because there is so much theoretical material to cover, I
would like to ask that you encourage your child to read the news and keep up with current events in lieu of
assigned homework. This will go a long way in your child's success in this course. Asking their opinion about
political issues going on in the world today might even lead to interesting conversations.

Bari is able to analyze sources to make inferences, arguments, and provide key information. Bari is able to
structure responses so that arguments are clear and follow a logical path.

Predicted Grade: 4

Attendance: Absent: 5 Late: 3

IB ENGLISH 11 (HL) Term 2: 92% (A)

Ms. K. Keller

Term 2 Comments: During the second term, we developed our visual analysis skills during a non-literary unit on
the street artist Banksy. After this, we continued to refine our reading and writing skills while exploring early
seventeenth century constructions of race and gender in William Shakespeare's Othello. In year one we are
working towards our IO (Individual Oral) exam, which will take place during the week of June 17-21.

At this time, Barididum's predicted IB grade is a 6. She has demonstrated very strong reading and analysis skills.
Her homework completion has been less consistent this term.

Areas of Knowledge and have completed concepts of learning and understanding Mathematics and will soon
move on to the Natural Sciences, Human Sciences, History and the Arts.

Bari is a very pleasant, capable and intelligent student. Predicted IB grade is currently a C (86-89%): Bari also
demonstrates an awareness and ability to explore knowledge questions by considering various perspectives,
counterpoints, and other areas of knowledge. Analysis and reflection are somewhat developed.
