SDG Challenge Guidelines
SDG Challenge Guidelines
• Photography: Submitted photos must be original work and address at least one
of the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Essay Writing: Essays must be original work, written in English, and address a
chosen SDG in detail.
• Jingle Making: Submitted jingles must be original compositions, no longer than
3 minutes, and address at least one of the SDGs in a catchy and informative
way.
Additional Considerations:
• Proof of enrollment (e.g., student ID) will be required during the submission.
• Participants must attach a duly-accomplished registration form (please see
attached) upon submission of entries. For team events, only one form is
needed.
• Participants may only submit one entry per category.
• Complete contest rules and regulations, including specific submission guidelines
and templates for each category, will be made available at the DMMMSU
International Affairs Facebook page.
• All entries shall be submitted on or before May 17, 2024 @ 5:00 P.M PST

I. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
A. Photo Specifications:
• Originality: All submitted photos must be your original work and not infringe on
any copyright.
• Resolution: High-resolution digital photos in JPEG format are required (a
minimum resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels).

o A photo capturing the beauty of a local nature reserve for SDG 15 (Life
on Land).
o A powerful image depicting the struggles of a community lacking access
to clean water for SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

• Relevance to SDGs (30%): How effectively does the photo capture the essence
of a chosen SDG?
• Originality and Creativity (30%): Does the photo present a unique perspective
on the chosen SDG?
• Composition and Technical Quality (20%) Is the photo visually appealing and
well-composed? Does it meet technical specifications (resolution, focus)?

• Emotional Impact (20%): Does the photo evoke emotion and inspire action in
the viewer?

A. Essay Requirements:
• Originality: Essays must be your original work, written in English, and not
infringe on any copyright.
• Topic: Choose one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) as the
focus of your essay.
• Word Count: Essays must be between 750 and 1000 words.
• Formatting: Double-spaced, 12-point font in Trebuchet, standard margins.
Include a title page with your name, institution, email address, and chosen
SDG.
B. Content:
• Develop a clear and well-structured essay that explores your chosen SDG in
depth.
• Demonstrate your understanding of the specific goals, challenges, and potential
solutions related to your chosen SDG.
• You can approach the essay from various angles:
o Analyze the current situation and challenges faced in achieving the SDG
in the ASEAN region.
o Propose innovative solutions or initiatives that can contribute to
progress.
o Discuss the role of youth in advocating for and achieving this SDG.
• Ensure your essay is well-researched and supported by evidence (data,
statistics, examples).
• Engage the reader with a clear and concise writing style, while maintaining a
formal academic tone.

D. Judging Criteria:
• Relevance to SDGs (30%): Does the essay clearly address a chosen SDG and
demonstrate a strong understanding of its goals and targets?
• Content and Depth (30%): Does the essay offer a thoughtful and insightful
analysis of the chosen SDG?
• Originality and Creativity (15%): Does the essay present a unique perspective
or approach to the chosen SDG? Note: The secretariat will use an AI-detection
tool to verify the originality of the essay.
• Clarity and Organization (15%): Is the essay well-structured, logically
organized, and easy to read?
• Grammar and Mechanics (10%): Is the essay free of grammatical errors, typos,
and formatting inconsistencies?

1st Place: Php 7,000.00 + Certificate of Recognition
2nd Place: Php 5,000.00 + Certificate of Recognition
3rd Place: Php 3,000.00 + Certificate of Recognition

• Originality: Jingles and videos must be original compositions and not infringe
on any copyright.
• Length: Maximum jingle and video duration of 3 minutes (including post
credits)
• Content:
o The jingle must clearly address at least one of the 17 SDGs.
o Use catchy lyrics and a memorable tune to effectively communicate the
chosen SDG and its message.
o The jingle can be sung a cappella or incorporate instruments.
o The jingle must be video recorded.
o Focus on creating a positive and inspiring message that encourages
action towards a sustainable future.

*All entries will be uploaded in the official Facebook page of DMMMSU International
Affairs Office.
E. Judging Criteria:
• Relevance to SDGs (30%): Does the jingle clearly address a chosen SDG and
effectively communicate its message?
• Originality and Creativity (30%): Does the jingle stand out with a catchy
melody, memorable lyrics, and a unique approach to the chosen SDG?
• Musical and Video Quality (25%): Is the jingle well-performed (vocals and/or
instruments) with good audio and video quality?
• Impact and Engagement (15%): Does the jingle leave a lasting impression and
inspire the listener to learn more about SDGs?
F. Prizes
1st Place: Php 10,000.00 + Certificate of Recognition
2nd Place: Php 7,000.00 + Certificate of Recognition
3rd Place: Php 5,000.00 + Certificate of Recognition
