 PRESENTATION

Today we will immerse ourselves in the

fascinating story of the hill condor in Peru, an
icon of Andean biodiversity that, unfortunately, is
on the verge of extinction in this country. The hill
condor, with its imposing presence and its
ecological and cultural importance, has been an
emblematic figure in the heights of the Peruvian
Andes for centuries. However, in recent years,
various threats have endangered its survival in
this territory. Throughout this presentation, we
will explore the causes of this alarming situation
and examine the measures necessary to protect
this majestic species and preserve its habitat in
the Peruvian hills.
 THE ANDEAN CONDOR

Introduction:
very good teacher, today we will talk about
one of the animals that are in danger of
extinction, which is the Andean condor and
we will learn a little more about it.

The Andean condor, also (condor de los

Cerros - condor of the Andes)
also simply called condor Its scientific name is
Vultur gryphus and it lives in the mountains of
the Andes Mountains and is a scavenger bird of
prey.
Characteristics of the Andean condor and

what does it feed on?

The Andean condor is one of the largest

raptor species in the neotropics. The body
length is 120 cm, reaching a wingspan of
300 cm and a weight of around 12 kg. Its
beak is cream-white at the end and black at
the base. It has gray legs and ayellowish
brown iris and it feeds on carrion, which is
why it plays an invaluable role in
ecosystems.
 Natural hábitat:
Lives in mountainous terrain. It glides on air currents, and
can reach more than 8000 m in height. When it glides, it
keeps its wings extended horizontally and its primaries
extended like fingers. It can travel at speeds of up to 50
km/h. Solitary or in groups. It nests in holes or caves in
rocks.
 why are they in danger of extinction?
The andean condor is in critical danger of extinction
basically because of:
- The main threat that affects the Andean condor is the
consumption of toxic baits, an illegal practice used to
control predatory species.

educating others about its importance to supporting conservation projects. Andean
species and ensure that it continues to fly through the skies of the Andes forever. Let us
act today to protect this iconic species and our precious Andean ecosystem!"
