Ф = the peak value of deflection selected for the measurement.

effective frame/arm pivot point (m)
The peak force F required to oscillate the spacer arm through
the angle measurement of ± Ф shall be determined (measured
at approximately 90o to the arm axis in the plane of the spacer
and passing through the centre of the clamp ).
The phase angle, α, between the force and arm deflection angle
shall also be determined.
If necessary the arm oscillation shall be maintained for a period
long enough to stabilize the temperature of the damping element
before measuring F and α.
The angle α may be measured directly by comparing the force
and arm angle wave forms. It may also be determined indirectly
by measuring the area of hysteresis loop formed by displaying
the force and arm angle deflection in X-Y form. In this case α
can be calculated as follows :

The test frequency shall not be higher than 3 Hz. The test shall be
performed at five different displacement amplitudes. The amplitudes
shall be selected to reproduce 10, 20, 40, 60 and 90 percent of the
maximum displacement permitted by the spacer-damper design.
The test shall be performed on three samples.
3. Fatigue Test
The purpose of this test is to evaluate the capacity of the spacer
damper to sustain without damage the cyclic movements which can
be induced by vibrations.
The spacer damper articulation shall be subjected to cyclic motions
for a total of 10 million cycles. The test frequency shall be between 2
and 3 Hz. The amplitude of motion shall be established on the
following basis :

- the load applied on the spacer damper clamp shall not be less
than ± 300 N.
- the clamp displacement under the applied load shall not be less
than 60% of the maximum displacement permitted by the design.
- if the 300 N load generates movement exceeding the maximum
permitted displacement, the load can be reduced to limit the
movement to 95% of the maximum displacement.
Acceptance criteria : 1. After the test, the sample shall be subjected to a second
dynamic characteristic test. This test shall be performed at two
amplitudes, 10% and 60% of the maximum displacement.
2. The spacer damper shall show no signs of cracks or
deterioration, loosening of bolts or abnormal wear.
3. The dynamic characteristics (k and n) shall not be less than
60% of the values measured before the fatigue test. The test
shall be performed on three samples.
