Free morpheme can stand alone while a bound morpheme cannot the ban morpheme must be
bound to another morpheme, might be bound to another bound morpheme or it could be
bound to a free morpheme. For example, the dogs is a free morpheme because it can stand
alone it has its own unit of meaning and then we have the -S which gives us some functional
information about the word dog telling us that there's more than one it's plural information and
it's a bound morpheme because it's on its own doesn't mean anything it has to be attached to
the free morpheme. So, a bound morpheme it doesn't carry its own meaning.
2. Inflection morphemes do not change the meaning rather they add some sort of grammatical
information as in –ed the past tense in walked or the -s of houses or apples the -S add adding to
a noun that indicates plural. Meanwhile, Morphemes that indicate lexical meaning are called
derivation and these always change the meaning of the word they attach to. So, in the case of
likely and unlikely we had to change from something positive to something negative. Now
derivation can also change the word class but doesn't always have to do. So, likely and unlikely
remain adjectives. Even though there is derivation whereas we see a change in the word class
from the verb to write to the noun writer.
