Instructions

a) This is a group assignment. Minimum five (5) students/group. Maximum six (6) students/group.
b) Each group is required to produce a video that is not more than 6 minutes (Minimum 5 minutes,
Maximum 6 minutes. Plus minus 20 seconds is okay). Marks will be deducted if the video is shorter
or longer than the allowed time.
c) You can choose your own team members in your group.
d) Only group representative / leader is to submit the video in MP4 / MPEG / AVI format.
e) Choose one issue/problem/case/scenario that is related to the Engineering Ethics. The scenario can
be taken from real court case, published article from mass media, published journal article, etc.
f) Describe the scenario/issue from the perspective of Engineering Ethics. Discuss in sufficient details
what the issues/problems are, the parties involved, facts and data, affected parties/things, material
and financial impacts if any, public safety/health/well-being, etc. Make use the Code of Conducts
provided by BEM/IEM and also Code of Ethics by NPSE/IEEE to guide you in solving this ethical issue.
g) In the video, show clearly your team members names, matric numbers, and photos/faces.
h) Role of every member should briefly be explained.
i) Each member should do the talking/presentation, one by one. For example, for 5 students/group,
each member can talk for 1 minute.
j) Evaluation will be based on the contents and creativity of the video.
k) Name the file according to the group leader’s matric number. Example, if the leader’s matric number
is 15236, then the video file name is Group15236.mp4
l) Due date for the submission is Sunday 3rd July 2022 before 11pm via USM eLearning website.

Some students’ queries about Assignment No. 3:

a) Do we need to explain a scenario about the problems and all the related info in terms of engineering
ethics so other than problems from ethics is not considered in our assignment?
Answer: Yes, that is correct. Please limit the issue/problem within the perspective of Engineering
Ethics. The video clip can be organised like this: the first speaker can introduce the problem/issue.
He/she can describe, define & explain the problem in sufficient details. The second speaker can
continue with the facts, data, other technical/financial info, etc related to the problem. He/she can
also mention the impact/effect from the problem. The 3rd speaker may talk/discuss/highlight which
particular aspect/item of Engineering Ethics could possibly be applied to resolve that ethical problem.
If not resolved 100%, at least the problem could be minimized. The 4th and 5th speakers may each
 suggest another solution from Code of Conducts / Code of Engineering Ethics to mitigate the ethical
problem.
b) Do we need to create and provide solutions based on those or explain the solution that has been
already done by their party to solve the problem?
Answer: Yes, you can use/modify other people solutions and then add them into yours.
