A Detailed Lesson Plan in Arts Grade 1

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:
a. describe and name the different kinds of lines;
b. draw representations of people, animals, houses, or anything they see around them using
lines; and
c. appreciate the importance of lines in an artwork.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Lines
Reference: Grade 1 Teacher’s Guide Quarter 1
Materials: Whiteboard, Marker, Yarn, Clay Colored Pencil and papers, Pencils, Ruler, Rubber
band, paintbrush and paints, flashcards.

Recalling of the Classroom Rules


Before we begin our lesson, let us recall

Today, we have a special activity for our


new lesson. We are going to explore
something mysterious and exciting!
I have a box here covered in a colorful
wrapper. What do you think might be

It’s like a present but it’s a mystery! Lets
find out together.
(slowly unwraps the box)

Mystery box content: Ruler, Pencil, Yarn,


Rubber band.

Notice interesting about these objects? They look like items from our house!
What do you see?
They are items that can be found in your
homes but there’s something else special
about them. Let’s take a closer look.
See the lines on each object? Can Some are straight, some are curved, and some
someone describe them for me? are wiggly!

What do you think these lines are for? Are they for drawing?

Yes, they are! These lines are used for


drawing, specifically in Art. And today we
are going to learn all about them!
B. Motivation
The class will be grouped into two. Each
group will have one representative for the
called activity:

Art Exploration!
In this activity, there will be four Art
Stations where every representative has to
finish it to win.

Station 1: Drawing Station with markers,


crayons/colored pencils.
 Each representative will have
to draw the following lines:
Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal,
Curved and Zigzag, using the
provided materials.
Station 2: Painting Station with Brushes
and Paint.
 Each representative will be
painting the following lines:
Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal,
Curved, and Zigzag using the
materials provided materials.

C. Discussion

The teacher corrects misconceptions from


the precious activity and explains vague
concepts:

Line: A line is a straight or curved


continuous mark made on a surface by a
moving point. Lines can be used to create
shapes, patterns and drawings.

Basic Types of Lines

1. Straight/Vertical Line
 A line that goes straight up and
down without curving.

What is a straight/vertical line again? A line that goes straight ma’am!

Very good!
And what other characteristics does it
have? It does not curve ma’am!
Excellent!

Can someone come in front and draw a (Raises his/her hand)

2. Horizontal Line
 A line that runs from left to right
or right to left.

Can someone try to draw a vertical line on (Raises his/her hand)

3. Diagonal Line
 A line that slants or leans in any
direction between vertical and
horizontal.

The next type of line is called the diagonal


line.

Why do you think it’s called a diagonal


line? Because it looks like it's leaning on a wall
ma’am!
Can someone try to draw a diagonal line
on the board? (Raises his/her hand)

Have you seen an object that looks like


this? Yes ma’am!

What object looks like this line?


The stairs ma’am!

This type of line is called

4. Zigzag Line
 A line changes direction abruptly,
creating a series of sharp angles.
What objects can you draw using a zigzag
line? Tree, mountains, stairs….

Can someone draw a tree on the board


using the zigzag line?

5. Curved Line
 A line that bends or curves
gradually without sharp angles.

It contrasts with the straight line that has


no curves.
D. Application

Activity: Creative Line Tracing

Instruction: Trace the shapes on the given paper,


then decorate it. After that, present your work to
the class.
