Initially, Engr. Arlen and Engr. Calvin, under the guidance of Sir Edwin Viernes,
provided us with an understanding of their program that introduced the fundamental structures
of their fields. Subsequently, we joined the Dam Instrumentation and Survey Unit (DISU) in
surveying Sitio Isla Verde, where we learned the process of setting up instruments and
determining location and elevation. In the subsequent days, we assisted Ma’am Lorna in
monitoring SNAP operations, including Magat Dam, Maris Dam, and BHEPP operations,
while also regularly updating rainfall data on an hourly basis.
This first week of OJT at FFIS has made me realize the essence of every employee’s
contribution to progress, affecting not only their division but also the defined area of their
operation. Additionally, I have observed their enthusiasm for their work, which has further
fueled my eagerness to learn each day.
WEEK 2
Our exploration extended to Sitio Isla Verde over the subsequent two days, a surveying
endeavor overseen by Engr. Richard Dagdag. However, weather conditions thwarted our plans
to fully utilize instruments like the RTK for comprehensive topographic surveying due to
persistent cloud cover.
August 29, 2023, marked an introduction to the realm of Electronics & Communication
Maintenance Unit, led by Sir Alvin Sorita. This exposure broadened our perspective. Moreover,
we actively participated alongside Sir Wilmar in executing warnings and gate operations for
the North Diversion Canal and South High Canal. The significance of adhering to Irrigation
Diversion Requests was underscored, highlighting its pivotal role in their field and its
implications for the farming community. Later that day, Engr. Artemio presented us with a
practical problem concerning open channels, enriching our technical acumen.
In a final endeavor, we collaborated with Sir Jef to configure a CCTV camera within
the EMS building, showcasing our adaptability to diverse tasks.
As we reflect upon these experiences, it's evident that our time at FFIS has been a period
of intense learning, growth, and hands-on engagement across various domains. The practical
exposure and knowledge gained during these weeks will undoubtedly shape our understanding
and competence moving forward.
