Manufacturing industries are industries that creates or produces goods with land,
labor, capital, and entrepreneurs. Manufacturing industries are part of the secondary
sector. There are many manufacturing industries in Bangladesh, but the RMG
(ready-made-garments) is the most successful one.

RMG (Ready-Made-Garment) Industries

RMG industries are textile industries. They are the powerhouse of Bangladesh’s
economy. Bangladesh has one of the largest RMG industry in the world, second to
China. This sector contributes to almost 80% of Bangladesh’s total export and
employs 4 million people.

In the past decades we have seen a rise in RMG industries in Bangladesh. There
are currently 4764 garment factories in Bangladesh.
Significance
• It is a huge source of employment, especially for women. 3.2 million people in
the RMG workforce are women.
• It empowers women by encouraging them to work by themselves, especially
in rural areas.
• Contributes to global relation-building.
• Contributes a lot to the annual GDP- which is increasing every year.
• Contribution to country’s phenomenal growth in export.
