Summary
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to provide instructions to perform a one-time visual
inspection of the inlet cone mating face and counter weight flange on the fan hub assembly for
surface damage. The fan hub assemblies found with surface damage, must be dispositioned per
the requirements of this SB. Dispositions include in-situ repairs, follow-on inspection
requirements, fly-on allowances, and removal criteria.

NOTE
The engine serial number effectivity data and its related engine model identification contained in
this Service Bulletin are taken from the records of part(s) incorporation during initial manufacture.

After initial engine manufacture, but before final delivery, Pratt & Whitney may change part(s) in
the engine or change the model identification of the engine. Such action is recorded on FAA 337
forms.

To find Service Bulletin PW1000G-C-72-00-0104-00A-930A-D models that are applicable, the

owner/operator of the engine must compare the Service Bulletin List supplied with the engine as
sent from Pratt & Whitney and the List of Changes incorporated at the Airframer from FAA 337
forms to the Service Bulletin PW1000G-C-72-00-0104-00A-930A-D Effectivity section.

A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY
CAN OCCUR.

WARNING
REFER TO THE MSDS FOR ALL MATERIAL USED AND THE
MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL
EQUIPMENT USED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING,
INJURY CAN OCCUR.

A. Make sure that you remove and install protection covers as necessary to prevent damage
to the engine.

B. Make sure that you wipe clean all parts and tools as necessary to remove unwanted
debris and prevent damage to the engine.

C. Put the Intake Cowl Protective Mat in the intake cowl.

CAUTION
DO NOT USE A METAL TOOL TO PRY THE INLET CONE OFF
FROM THE FAN HUB ASSEMBLY, OR DAMAGE TO THE PARTS
CAN OCCUR. IF A TOOL IS REQUIRED, USE THE SPECIFIED
TOOL IN AMM.

D. Remove the inlet cone from the fan hub assembly. Refer to Reference 4, AMM Task 72-
11-01-000-801-A. See Figure 1.

NOTE
Put an alignment mark on the inlet cone and on the fan hub assembly before removal of
the inlet cone so that the inlet cone can be re-installed in the right position on the fan hub
assembly.

E. Do a visual inspection of the inlet cone flange hole and mating face, counter weight flange
scallops, holes, inner and outer surfaces and inlet cone flange scallops on the fan hub
assembly, for nicks, dents and scratches, as follows. See Figure 2.

(1) Use white light and a 3X - 10X magnifier.

(2) If necessary, clean the areas to be inspected by SPOP 208, wipe method. Refer to
Reference 4, AMM Task 70-27-00-910-804-A.

(3) Remove any raised material and sharp edges by SPOP 532. Remove raised
material by manual blending only. Refer to Reference 4, AMM Task 70-28-00-910-
801-A.

(4) Surface damage on the inlet cone flange hole and mating face, counter weight
flange scallops, holes, inner and outer surfaces and inlet cone flange scallops is
permitted per the disposition given in Table 3. See Table 3 and Figure 2 for
inspection areas, limits and disposition.

(5) Contact Pratt & Whitney for surface damage exceeding the specified limits.
Superficial imperfections on any surface are permitted and are not considered
damage. See Table 3 and Figure 2 for inspection areas, limits and disposition.

NOTE
DEFINITION:

SUPERFICIAL IMPERFECTION - An imperfection which disrupts the surface and

appears smooth-edged but does not penetrate the surface roughness texture. This
condition is so slight, considered less than a shallow imperfection, that a stylus
need not be used to evaluate it.

F. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) of all the damaged area(s) on the fan hub
assembly, by SPOP 70, ultra high sensitivity. Refer to Reference 4, AMM Task 70-25-
00-910-801-A.

(1) No cracks are permitted.

(2) Superficial imperfections do not require FPI.

https://prod61-ews.pw.utc.com/ietp/PW1000G-77445-19451-00/PW1000G-C-72-00-010... 5/31/2018
ENGINE - FAN HUB ASSEMBLY - INSPECTION OF THE FAN HUB ASSEMBL... Page 10 of 29

G. Blend the surface damage on the fan hub assembly by SPOP 532, if necessary. Refer
to Reference 4, AMM Task 70-28-00-910-801-A. See Table 3 and Figure 2 for
inspection areas, limits and disposition.

(1) Maintain a blend length to depth ratio of 50:1 minimum.

(2) Ensure that the blend is centered at the damage.

(3) Ensure that the blend limits specified in Table 3 are not exceeded.

(4) If the blend extends to an adjacent area, the portion of the blend in the adjacent
area must meet the requirements of that area. Blends may not extend into areas
which have no blend limits defined. Contact Pratt & Whitney if blend is required in
no blend areas.

(5) Limits in Table 3 apply after blending and include a requirement for the removal of an
additional depth of material beyond the damage depth.

(6) The blend must be smooth and continuous, with no raised material. Sharp edges are
not permitted.

(7) Ensure the minimum amount of parent material is removed to completely remove all
the damage, raised and deformed material.

(8) Unless specified differently, depths specified in this repair represent the maximum
blend depth permitted after repair and not the depth of damage before repair.

(9) The fan hub assembly must be removed at the next shop visit by Reference 3,
Engine Manual, 72-00-11, and have a shotpeening repair performed for the
blended areas in accordance with Reference 5, Cleaning, Inspection, And Repair
Manual, 72-11-0151. If the engine is currently at an overhaul shop, this is required
at this shop visit.

H. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the repaired area(s) on the fan hub assembly,
by SPOP 70, ultra high sensitivity. Refer to Reference 4, AMM Task 70-25-00-910-
801-A.

(1) No cracks are permitted.

(2) Complete the Damage Inspection Report for each engine. See Figure 4.

(a) Provide the Damage Inspection Report to your local engine field representative.

CAUTION
ENSURE THAT ALIGNMENT PINS ARE USED DURING
INSTALLATION OF THE INLET CONE. IF ALIGNMENT PINS ARE
NOT AVAILABLE, YOU MUST USE THE ALIGNMENT MARK
THAT WAS APPLIED PRIOR TO REMOVAL OF THE INLET
CONE TO ENSURE THAT THE HOLES ON THE INLET CONE
ARE PROPERLY ALIGNED WITH THE HOLES ON THE FAN
HUB PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE INLET CONE BOLTS. IF THE
INLET CONE BEING INSTALLED IS NOT THE ORIGINAL ONE
THAT WAS REMOVED, AND ALIGNMENT PINS ARE NOT
AVAILABLE, CONFIRM PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE INLET
CONE VISUALLY PER Figure 3.
