Aim

Although AR technology is very powerful, a new system is now being developed to overcome
the limitations of smartphone screen size. This is the SixthSense smartphone, which aims to
project images and data about an object onto surface of object.
Components
The system consists of a camera, a projector, a smartphone which is worn around the neck and
colored caps on fingers.
Operation
The operation is done by pointing the camera at an object and by making gestures with the
colored finger caps. After that the device will project relevant information onto surface of object
Method
The device works by finding the GPS co-ordinates of the object the camera is pointing at and
obtaining data from Internet while recognizing fingers gestures. In this way the object can be
used as an interface.
Outdated technology
Even if the smartphone is an relative new invasion which is use on a large scale, this device
provides only static data on a small screen.
Recent development
Researchers have found a way to provide live data and project it outside the smartphone.
Work in progress
The researchers are currently teaching the device to recognize several finger gestures, such as
the circle for the clock and the @ sign to download emails.
Future work required
An improvement that will ease the use of this device it will be reducing the size of equipment so
it can be worn as glasses.
Future target
The future target of this project is turning the whole world into an interactive screen for the
smartphone increasing the amount of live data available.
