Prevent Fires and Burns

Stop, count to 5!

Do you know that in only 5 seconds you could obtain a severe burn with a hot flame,
hot oil, or strong chemicals?

13-17 May 2024 is acknowledged as National Burns Awareness Week to remind

us that an accident can arise in seconds. Therefore it is important to hunt for
hazards and eliminate risks at home.

Here are prevention tips to avoid burns

Store chemicals safely, away from children and properly

sealed
Use utensils with plastic or wooden handles, as metal
conduct heat
Maintain a clean fire place or chimney to ensure efficient
airflow, reducing the risk of sparks escaping and causing
burns
Ensure that your electrical appliances are in good
condition to avoid shortages or sparks that may cause a
fire
Ensure that candles are placed on sturdy surfaces out of
reach of children, and never leave a candle unattended

Remember to take these tips home with you, and keep in mind that accidents can occur
in mere seconds, underscoring the critical importance of preventive measures.
