It's a continuous journey...

The Shippers Council is a working group of the Logistics & Supply Chain Management Society. In a
meeting we had the other day, the chair asked each of us to share what we thought we would like
to do when we retired and frankly I struggled with the answer.

I have been working in Supply Chain for more than three decades and have been volunteering with
the Society for about 20 years. Those who know me personally, are somewhat aware of my myriad
interests and whilst keeping them totally separate I have been fortunate enough to be able to
weave these together and find just about enough time to pursue a number of these activities to the
fullest. I also enjoy my work in supply chain and the Society has, and continues to provide me with
opportunities to develop my skills, interest in the profession and learn along the way.

We are in the midst of planning for LogiSYM Asia Pacific and LogiSYM Malaysia in May and
July respectively and as usual we are always inviting volunteers to come forward. Some potential
volunteers tend to ask "what's in it for me"? This is another question that I struggle with. As we all
know, generally, you get as much as you put into something and working at LogiSYM is the same.

If you are looking for a fast return then this is not the platform for it. LogiSYM was created by the
industry for the industry. Working on one of our programmes cannot be quantified in dollars but
for myself the rewards have been tremendous. I have forged some excellent friendships along the
way and it's been great to see most of these friends go from success to success.

I am optimistic that this coming work year will be more of the same. There will be challenges and
tribulations. Some of these will be big and others not so significant. When we come out the other
end, we will be in a better place and positioned to take on the next big challenge - or opportunity. I
look forward to working with you as we continue on our journey and look forward to the interactions
along the way.
