7. What medications or treatment would you expect the individual to receive based on the

observed psychiatric condition? List with rationale.

Based on the story of Susanna from the movie Girl, Interrupted, the psychiatrist

diagnosed her with borderline personality disorder (CPD), which eventually results in severe

depression (Mangold, 1999). A condition that extensively interferes with an individual’s mental

health and results in emotional instability issues. An individual with the abovementioned

condition would likely receive medications or treatment that include mood stabilizers and

antidepressants (Raypole,2019). These forms of treatment assist them in managing mood swings,

distorted thinking patterns, also impulsivity. Moreover, psychotherapy such as dialectical

behavior therapy (DBT) which works extensively on strategies and techniques that include

mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, would widely assist an

individual with CPD condition (Raypole,2019). DBT has significant ways, like daily journaling,

that assist an individual in keeping track of the negative mood pattern. Also works as an emotion

regulatory system for an individual.

9. What interdisciplinary teams were available for the patient and/or family?

The interdisciplinary teams presented for the patient include a psychiatrist, psychiatric

nurse, psychologist, and family therapist. A psychiatrist provides the patient with diagnostic

assessments to identify her condition, with the assistance of the psychiatric nurse, actively

administers medications and takes note of any side effect occurrences. Subsequently, the

occupational therapist works on identifying coping skills and the necessary activities to manage

and improve the patient’s mental health. Also, the health psychologist assists in providing

individual and group therapy sessions to the patient. Finally, family therapists would extensively

provide general therapy to the family members of the patients that assist them in coping with the

dramatic situation (Mangold, 1999). These professional staffs are of great significance in

working together to see the patient and the family members improve emotionally, physically, and

in a desirable mental state.
