there is thunderstorm.
What is Thunderstorm?
CONCEPT OF THUNDERSTORM

A thunderstorm is a weather condition generally characterized by heavy rain,

thunder, lightning, and possibly a tornado. A typical thunderstorm occurs
when the sun heats a large body of moist air near the ground. The moist air
rises in the air and is cooled by expansion. This cooling condenses water
vapor and forms a cumulus cloud. When the process continues, cumulus-
nimbus clouds are produced. In this case, the turbulent air inside the cloud
produces raindrops and strong electrical charges that result in lightning.
Thunderstorms at night are due to the cooling of the upper layers of the air
by radiation. Others are caused by the approaching cold air masses that go
like a wedge near the ground, which force warmer air to rise above (DepEd,
2008). This atmospheric condition can kill if it strikes any living thing. It can
also cause damage to properties when large objects like trees are blown off
the ground.

Before

1. Create a preparedness plan. Learn about your

area's thunderstorm risk and how to be warned of
an approaching thunderstorm.

2. Trim and remove dead and rotting trees and

other objects that could fall and may cause injury.

3. Close the windows and doors to prevent

objects from being blown inside the premises.

4. Stay inside the house or classroom.

5. Remember to ensure a proper drainage for the

rainwater before the thunderstorm.

During

1. Stay calm. Wear warm clothes.

2. Stay away from trees, towers, fences, electric

and telephone lines if you are in an open area.

3. Watch out for falling objects and power lines

from posts for electricity and telephone lines.

4. Postpone all outdoor activities.

5. Unplug and turn off all the appliances such as

televisions and computers. Electric surges and
lightning may cause damage to all these. Use a
battery-operated radio for gaining information
instead.

6. Move to the lowest floor of the building or house

or any safe place within the building without
windows or glass doors.

7. If you are in an open area and can't find a

shelter, put your feet together with heels touching
each other (tiptoe position) while in a squat
position. The logic is to transfer the lightning's
electricity from one foot to the other so that it
goes back to the ground. If you don't do this, the
lightning might go to your heart and may cause
death. While doing this, make sure that you put
your hands over your ears to protect your ears
from thunder.

and instructions.

ROSALES, Pangasinan -- A severe thunderstorm

accompanied by hailstorm was experienced in
some parts of this town on Monday, which is a
normal weather system this month and not
related to the solar halo seen all over the
province, the Philippine Atmospheric,
Gyeophysical and Astronomical Services
Administration (PAGASA) said.

Jose Estrada Jr., PAGASA Dagupan's chief

meteorological officer, said the thunderstorms,
including hailstorm or tornado, are part of the
natural weather system from March to May.
