“Fiber Bonding” binder, Section 1.

Acronal® 32 D is used to bond nonwoven fabrics and to coat and

impregnate woven and knitted fabrics.

Chemical nature Acronal® 32 D is an aqueous dispersion of a heat-crosslinking copolymer of

acrylic esters and acrylonitrile. It does not contain any plasticizers.

The aforementioned data shall constitute the agreed contractual quality of

the product at the time of passing of risk. The data are controlled at regular
intervals as part of our quality assurance program. Neither these data nor
the properties of product specimens shall imply any legally binding guaran-
tee of certain properties or of fitness for a specific purpose. No liability of
ours can be derived therefrom.

Compatibility with

Polymer dispersions Very good compatibility with the other anionic and nonionic polymer
dispersions in our range.

Aminoplast resins Compatible with Urecoll® and Saduren® resins.

Pigments Compatible with Luconyl®, Pigmosol® and Helizarin® pigments.

Thickeners Compatible with Collacral® P, Collacral® VAL, Latekoll® D and water-soluble

cellulose derivatives.

We would recommend customers to test the stability of formulations before

they are processed.

Crosslinking The films that Acronal® 32 D forms by the evaporation of water are already
partially crosslinked. The degree of crosslinking can be increased by heating
them to a temperature of 150 – 180 °C.

Catalysts such as maleic acid, phosphoric or ammonium hydrogen

phosphate can be used to increase the rate of the crosslinking reaction.

Resistance to solvents The films formed by Acronal® 32 D are insoluble in water and most organic
solvents once they have been crosslinked, but they do swell on solvation.

Application
Acronal® 32 D is distinguished by its excellent washfastness and excellent
resistance to the solvents used in dry cleaning. It is therefore mainly used to
manufacture interlinings and high-loft wadding for the garment industry. We
also recommend this product as a binder for coating woven, knitted and
nonwoven fabrics.

Processing Acronal® 32 D is easy to apply and it can be applied by all conventional

coating, impregnating and spraying techniques. It can easily be made into a
foam by blowing or stirring in air. The stability of the foam can be enhanced
by adding surfactants or thickeners.

Customers should carry out their own trials when developing products based
on Acronal® 32 D. Its compatibility with other ingredients, its adhesion on
different fibers and its stability in storage, etc., are affected by a variety of
factors that are too numerous for us to take into account in our own trials.

Safety
General The usual safety precautions when handling chemicals must be observed. In
particular, the place of work must be well ventilated if large quantities are
being processed, the skin should be protected, and safety glasses should
be worn at all times.

Labeling According to all the data at our disposal, Acronal® 32 D does not need
to be labeled as a dangerous substance or preparation as defined in the
relevant European Union directives (substances directive 1967/548/EC and
preparations directive 1999/45/EC) according to their current status.

Safety Data Sheet A Safety Data Sheet has been compiled for Acronal® 32 D that contains
up-to-date information on all questions relevant to safety.
