BACKGROUND
Due to rampant shortage of food to provide the staff members at breakfast and lunch
time. The Agriculture department at Devine Success Academy wants to embark on
Agricultural projects. The department wishes to plant beans and peas in its 5 hectare
field. x is the area in hectares required for beans and y is the area in hectares under
peas. Beans require 2 bags of fertilizer per hectare and peas require 4 bags of fertilizers,
the department has 16 bags of fertilizer for the plants. The department plants at least
one hectare of beans. The department plants at least one hectare of peas. The profit is
$30,00 per hectare for beans and $40,00 per hectare for peas.

THE CALA
This CALA consist of three parts, part A, part B and part C. You are required to respond to
all the parts.

PART A
 defining variables
 formulating inequalities

PART B
 Representing inequalities on the graph paper
 Giving all the solutions available
 Calculate the area of each crop to be planted for maximum profit to be realised
 Calculate the expected maximum profit that may be realised
PART C
 Writing a report to the school administrators advising them whether to embark on the
above agricultural project or not, if the department is to start the project then cite
reasons for continuation

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED


This CALA will be assessed out of 30
You will be assessed based on your ability to perform the following activities
 Define the variables you will use. [2]
 Formulate inequalities from the variables [6]
 Represent the inequalities on a graph paper [8]
 Give all the solutions available. [4]
 Use the graph to find the area of each crop that will give maximum profit and calculate the
expected maximum profit [2]
 Write a report to the school administrators citing whether or not to commence the project
[8]

 Use x as the area of land for beans and y for peas
 Remember to shade the unwanted regions
