Activities carried out

1. To improve solid waste management

Solid waste management is the process by which solid waste is disposed in a right way i.e use of
rubbish pits or containers.
Solid waste was carried out in Kapkwata trading centre where by the community was health
educated on how to dispose waste in the right way.
They were encouraged to have each a rubbish pit or basket containers to dispose wastes in their
respective households or business premises.
They were also health educated on the various diseases associated with refuse like cholera,
diarrhea because flies like such places that are dumped with refuse.

Challenges

 Most people do not have refuse pits especially the hotel owners
 Most areas are rocky and don’t favor digging of refuse pits

Recommendations

 Community members were encouraged to have refuse pits for refuse disposal.
 Communities were encouraged to opt for containers because of the rocky area.
2. To ensure safe water supply

This process of safe water supply starts right from the source to consumption.

Community members were encouraged to always ensure that the water sources are clean i.e. the springs
or tap stands should always be clean by ensuring that the place is fenced to avoid children playing from
the catchment area and also ensure good drainage.

Challenges

 Community members destroying the fence for firewood.

 Water user committees not active.

Recommendations

 Bye-laws to safeguard the fences by the community.

 Training of water user committees and activating them should be conducted.
3. Conducting community dialogues and advocacy meetings

This was conducted in Kworus Parish were members especially the Councilors and LC I’s were held on the
rules especially issues concerning hygiene and sanitation is concerned. They promised for better
improvement of health in their areas of work.

Thanks.
