PROJECT PROPOSAL

A. Title of the project: Garbage Collection Point of Purok 7

B. Project Nature:
a. Environmental/Ecological
1. Proper Waste Disposal
2. Waste Management

C. Project Description:
This document outlines a proposed Waste Collection Point project in
Purok 7, Brgy. Toril Proper, Davao City. A group called D’Nature Lover aims to
address the community's lack of area to collect their weekly trash in one
designated collection point through various activities. These include installing the
designated waste collection point and educating residents through symposiums
on proper waste segregation and management. The project expects to organize
the community's waste collection areas and encourage long-term proper waste
practices. Success will be measured by increased organized segregation bins
and the community's continued proper waste segregation after the project's
completion.

D. Project Rationale:
Solid waste disposal is a major challenge in many industrialized and
developing nations, both in metropolitan regions as well as rural ones. Garbage
that are not disposed of properly could lead to a lot of problems in the
community. Foul odor from the garbage may cause negative effects to the health
of the residents. Undisposed garbage may cause flooding because it can block
the sewages or canals of the community added to the fact that pests may
colonize the area. According to Interfacing Development Interventions for
Sustainability, majority of barangays in Davao City do not properly implement the
solid waste management program.
There are people living in a community that do not have any interest in
cleaning their garbage and never practice proper waste disposal. Without proper
waste disposal, there will be continuous piling up of garbage resulting to clogged
canals and drainage eventually causing floodwater to overflow during heavy
rains. If a community will practice proper waste management, it can avoid
complications that may harm the community. The proposed project (Waste
Collection Point) could become the solution to the garbage problem of the
community.

E. Project Beneficiaries:
Waste management can benefit communities in a variety of ways, such
as reducing waste, pre-incident waste management planning, community-based
waste management programs, and collaborating with shop owners and local
governments to prevent hazardous materials from entering the environment.

F. Project Objectives:
 To help maintain the cleanliness of the place/community.
 To achieve waste reduction.
 To introduce strategies to make the place into a low waste community.
 To revive the simplest way of gathering and collecting garbage and
trash.
 To minimize garbage nuisance in the environment.
 To promote 3R’s.
 To lessen pollutants that cause illness to people.
