What is a System?
▪ Is a group of interrelated components working together to ward a common
goal by accepting inputs and producing outputs in an organized
transformation process.

Inputs and Outputs: A major objective of a system is to produce an output that

has value to its user. In order to get a good output, inputs to system must be
appropriate.
Processing: It is the element of a system that involves the actual transformation of
input into output. It is the operational component of a system.
Control: The control elements guide the system. It is the decision-making
subsystem that controls the pattern of activities governing input, processing, and
output.
Feedback: Feedback measures output against a standard in some form of
procedure that includes communication and control.

The difference between Data VS. Information VS. Knowledge in real life:
Data: Raw facts.
Example: Invoice #259 Total Amount = $139.23.
Information: Processed data with contextual meaning.
Example: Total Sales for Southern Region in First Quarter = $2,156,232.
Knowledge: Collective information gained through individual expertise.
Example: The Southern Region's sales in the first quarter are high, we
understand that this region is growing fast.

Introduction to information system
An information system is a combination of technology, people, and processes that
work together to gather, store, process, and share information in a specific setting.
Its main purpose is to help make decisions and accomplish the goals of an
organization.
Information Systems (IS) VS. Information Technology (IT)

Aspect Information System (IS) Information Technology (IT)

Manages information form Involves technology for

Components of information system
▪ Hardware: Physical devices like computers and servers.
▪ Software: Programs and applications for data processing.
▪ Data: Raw facts and figures used as information.
▪ Human: Individuals interacting with the system.
▪ Network: Infrastructure that enables communication and data transfer
between devices, often through wired or wireless connections.
▪ Processes: Procedures guiding data handling and system operation.

Processes

The goal of an information system

▪ Is to transform data into information in order to generate knowledge that
can be used for decision making.

Information systems use technology to facilitate the efficient flow of data and
information. Examples of such technology include Microsoft Access.

What is Microsoft Access?
Microsoft Access is a relational database management system (RDBMS)
developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite and provides a
user-friendly interface for creating and managing databases.
▪ A “Database" is a structured collection of data
organized for easy management and retrieval.

▪ Relational Database management system "RDBMS"

is software that organizes data into tables with rows
and columns, allowing for efficient storage, retrieval,
and management of relational data using SQL…...

Microsoft Access Features

▪ Tables: Allows users to create tables to store data in a structured format.

▪ Data Types: Supports a variety of data types, including text, numbers,

dates, and attachments.

▪ Relationships: Permits users to define relationships between tables to

maintain data integrity.

▪ Queries: Enables users to create queries to retrieve and manipulate data

based on specified criteria.

▪ Forms: Provides a user-friendly interface for designing data entry forms,

making it easier to input and edit data.

▪ Reports: Allows users to generate reports for analyzing and presenting data
in a formatted manner.

▪ Data Import/Export: Supports importing and exporting data from/to

various formats, facilitating data exchange.
