Submitted by Canada Issue: Vaccine transportation & accessibility for LIC’s Signatories:
Noting, the need for the transport of vaccines to reach LIC’s.
Emphasizing, the collaborative efforts that led to the control and near-elimination of measles in many regions. Concerned, that the death rate for LIC’s will continue to increase without immediate transportation of vaccines to the countries in order to prevent illnesses. Recognizing, the importance of global health equity. Highlighting, the successful global campaign to eliminate polio through vaccination efforts.
1. Calls for, a new UN body called VAT (Vaccine Accessibility &
Transportation) to make vaccines more accessible to people and improve transportation routes especially for LIC’s.
2. Calls for, the establishment of vaccination programs in
underserved communities. a) This would be possible by identifying areas with low vaccination rates, using public health data, and then set up the vaccination centres and programs that are easily accessible.
3. Recommends, a global fund to improve transportation
networks and be able to use more refrigerated trucks and storage facilities to maintain the vaccines proper temperature during the transportation to low-income countries. 4. Further recommends, to analyse census data and population estimates to see how many citizens there are that are in need of the vaccines.
a) Factors like ages, occupations and health conditions, etc…
will be looked at in order to know who fits the requirements needed to take the vaccine.
b) Requests implementing a system that takes into account
the population density of different regions when allocating vaccines to ensure fair vaccine distribution based on population density for equal access.
