‘THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA’ – Ernest Hemingway

How can I describe the short novel “The Old Man and the Sea”? It is one of the few novels that I have
read from cover to cover in a single day. This short story of an old Cuban fisherman is written by one of
the world’s famous writers Ernest Hemingway, the Nobel prize winner for literature in 1954.

Santiago is the main character in the novel. Santiago’s greatest love is the sea and fishing. He compares
the sea to a woman. Santiago’s friend is Manolino, a boy who fishes with him. This book is one of the
best ones I have ever read. It is a great story of a friendship between an old man and a boy. It is also a
story about Man’s love for Nature. Moreover, this novel shows how strong Man can be if he believes in
himself.

This was my first Hemingway’s read, and I was very impressed with the storytelling and with the
message in this short story.

I highly recommend this novel to everyone becauseit is an inspiring story about life.
