1. Fill in the gaps. Put a tick if the feature is there, cross if it is not.

Feature Animal cell Plant cell

Nucleus
Cell membrane
Cytoplasm
Cell wall
Vacuole
Chloroplasts

2. Draw a labelled diagram of an animal cell.

3. Draw a labelled diagram of a plant cell.

4. See the table below. Learn it! Read one row, then cover it up and see if you can say it aloud from memory.
Part Function
Its structure is permeable to some substances but not to others. It therefore controls the
Cell membrane
movement of substances in and out of the cell.
A jelly-like material that contains dissolved nutrients and salts and structures called organelles.
Cytoplasm
It is where many of the chemical reactions happen.
Nucleus Contains genetic material, including DNA, which controls the cell’s activities.
Organelles that contains the green pigment, chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for
Chloroplast
photosynthesis. Contains the enzymes needed for photosynthesis.
Organelles that contain the enzymes for respiration, and where most energy is released in
Mitochondria
respiration.
Vacuole Filled with cell sap to help keep the cell turgid.
Cell wall Made from cellulose fibres and strengthens the cell and supports the plant.
Now try and fill it in from memory…
