• power cable
• upper and lower packaging protections
• Allen key
• IFU English
• CD-ROM IFU other languages

Take out all the accessories and take off the upper packaging protection.
To take out the T-ACE II+ itself, please be careful because the machine is very heavy.
Preferably, take the machine out of the box with 2 persons and put it on its location.
Place the device on a flat surface and make sure you can always reach the on/off switch.

WARNING Never take the machine out of the box by pulling the telescopic bag
support.

CAUTION Make sure the T-ACE II+ machine is never exposed to direct sunlight
because this can negatively influence the sensitivity of the B.C. layer
detection.

NOTE When using multiple T-ACE II+ machines, read point 5.2 (Configuration
T-ACE II+ Network) for a correct layout and placement of the T-ACE II+
network.

-6-

5.2. CONFIGURATION T-ACE II+ NETWORK

1. All T-ACE II+ devices must be connected to the same Ethernet network to enable
communication between the T-ACE II+ devices and T-SOFT. This can be done with a
wired or a wireless router.

NOTE Communication cannot be established without the optional wired/wireless

routers and the T-SOFT software.

2. In real production, 3 T-ACE II+ machines can be simultaneously operated by 1

operator.

3. Maximum 3 T-ACE II+ machines can be connected to the optional Sil-Air

compressor (if no air pressure plugs are present)

Typical schematic example layouts of a T-ACE II+ network can be as shown below:

5.3. SYSTEM SET-UP

1. To work with the machine, the telescopic bag support has to be moved upwards.
Please contact your local Terumo representative to do this and to check proper
functioning of the machine before using with blood products in daily routine.
2. Connect the device to the air supply (connect an outside air tube to the air inlet on
the back of the T-ACE II+). For connection of the T-ACE II+ to an air compressor,
carefully read the instructions in point 5.5 (working with an air compressor).
3. For connection of the T-ACE II+ to a PC, carefully read the instructions in point 5.6
(working with computer connection).
4. Plug the bar code reader cable in the RS-232 communication port on the rear of the
T-ACE II+.
5. Connect the system to the power supply. (Connect the AC power cable to the AC
inlet on the back of the T-ACE II+ and then to the earthed AC socket).

6. Switch on the machine for the calibration of the scales and read carefully the
instructions in point 5.7 (Calibration of the scales).

WARNING To avoid electrical shock, the protective grounding conductor in the

power cord must be connected to the ground.

7. Open the door and place the bags on the T-ACE II+ device.
Depending on the bag configuration and application, different ways exist to place the
bags. The correct bag positioning for the selected program will be indicated on the
graphical display.

Example 1: Conventional Quadruple bag Example 2: Top-and-bottom triple bag

• Always make sure that the tubing is correctly placed inside the clamps and in
the flow regulator!
This is very important because the clamps will guide the flow of liquid to the
appropriate bags. If tubing is not correctly placed, it is understandable that the
machine will not operate in a proper way.
These clamps can also be used as sealing heads to seal the tubing at the end
of the separation so that manual clamping and making seals after the separation
is not longer necessary.
• The bags have to be placed on the hooks of the plasma and/or SAGM scale.
These hooks are connected with scales and will weigh the amount of grams
entering or leaving the bags.
• The primary bag has to be placed with the label side visible (in front position)!
So also no label may be adhered on the backside of the primary bag!

5.4. START OPERATION

1. Activate the air pressure (at least 4 bar is required for one T-ACE II+ device) and
switch on the machine(s). After a while, on each machine the following screen will
appear:

version 1.x

initialising T-ACE II+ - self-check

remove all the bags and close the door

2. Make sure no bags or weights are placed on the scales and close the door.
The T-ACE II+ machine will check the status of its internal components and if
necessary, recalibrate the scales and/or the flow regulator detection. The press
position and the LED voltages are controlled too but not calibrated. If these are out
of specification, an error message will be displayed on the screen. During this self-
check the operation indicator lights up. If some components are not functioning in
between its specifications and cannot be automatically adjusted, an error message
will be displayed.
An extensive list of errors is given at the end of this manual (section Alarm & error
messages). The self-check can be stopped by pressing ‘STOP’ or can be continued
by pressing ‘START’.

After completion of the self-check, the door will open again and the ‘start’ menu will
be shown:

program 01 CONV

indicator is illuminated.

5. When the separation is completed, the operation indicator starts blinking. After
removing the bags, the T-ACE II+ goes back to its initial status and the start menu
is again shown on the display.

NOTE After 10 minutes, the backlight of the screen goes out. Push “stop” to
return to normal operation mode.

CAUTION Do not touch the bags during operation as the T-ACE II+ is
continuously checking the weight of the components.

5.5. WORKING WITH AN AIR COMPRESSOR

1. Connect the air compressor with outside air tube to the air inlet on the backside of
the T-ACE II+.

2. If more than one T-ACE II+ is connected to a compressor, it is necessary to replace

the standard L-piece air inlet by an optional T-piece air in/outlet at the backside of
T-ACE II+.

3. If the external Sil-Air low-noise compressor, which can be optionally bought, is used
for the first time please fill the compressor first with 0,5 l of the supplied oil before
switching on. Keep the air outlet valve of the compressor closed until enough
pressure is build up. If not enough pressure is delivered; it is always possible to
adjust with the air regulation valve.

4. At least 4 bar is required for each machine, more pressure is also all right because
the T-ACE II+ has a safety valve inside which cuts the air pressure on 8 bar.

8.7 FLOW REGULATOR DETECTION

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE
Regularly check that the inside of the regulator unit is free of dirt.

ADJUSTMENT
Normally, no adjustment is necessary: the numeric potentiometers will calibrate it selves.
If during the self-check, the T-ACE II+ is giving an error message it is possible to
manually adjust the numeric potentiometers.
In the ANALOG INPUTS menu it is possible to see the voltage. This voltage should be
1.30 ± 0.10 V (1.20 ≈ 1.40 V) without black paper in between (full light) and 5.00 V with
the black paper in between (no light). The 5 V can not be adjusted, it must be 5 V or the
detector is broken.

REPLACEMENT
Necessary equipment:
2,5 mm Allen key
soldering iron

If the voltage can not be adjusted, the sensor has to be replaced.

If the value displayed on the “ANALOG INPUTS” menu is not in line with those described
in the adjustment section and the adjustment of the numeric potentiometers does not
cause any variation, check whether the leads are properly connected to the terminal on
the Interface Board. If properly connected, change the detector:

● unscrew the 2 screws on the flow regulator unit

● disconnect the flow regulator sensor connector from the Interface Board
● remove the top of the flow regulator unit, and the wires will come out of the base

● unscrew the 2 screws of the detector at the top of the flow regulator
● remove the detector
● position a new detector, with the white point downwards. Be sure not to forget to
place the spacers
● replace the whole unit
● reconnect the flow regulator sensor connector to the Interface Board

You can solder the detector, use crimping tube to protect the wires.
After replacement, switch off the T-ACE II+ and let it make the automatic calibration. It is
possible that the self-check will take longer time because the new sensor has to be
calibrated.

The Flow regulator detector has a better tube holder, the tube will not come easily out of
the holder.

After adjustment it is necessary to make a scale calibration. See chapter 5.7.

REPLACEMENT
Necessary equipment:
multimeter
Allen Key (1,5 mm; 2,5 mm; 3,0 mm; 4,0 mm)
spanner 7 mm

Changing the scales is not necessary unless the leads have come loose from the strain
gauge or is visually damaged. To test the functioning of the scales, check the impedance
between the 4 leads and the scales, using a resistance (Ω) meter:

WHITE/BLACK 960 Ω +/- 10%

RED/GREY 960 Ω +/- 10%

When placing a new strain gauge, take great care during the entire operation not to pull
the wires. If the wires on the strain gauge come loose even slightly, irreversible damage
will be caused and the scale can’t be used anymore!

a) Plasma scale

● take away the back plate of the scale support by unscrewing the 4 screws with a
3,0 mm Allen key and taking off the plate

8.19 SEALING HEAD

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE
Be sure that the sealing heads are clean and dry. When blood or other dirt is inside the
heads clean them before reusing.
Cleaning can be done by unscrewing the two Allen screws on the top of the head and
removing the top. Remove the dirt and make sure that the sealing heads are dry.
Close the heads again after cleaning.

ADJUSTMENT
No adjustment necessary.

REPLACEMENT
Necessary equipment:
● 2,5; 3,0 mm Allen Keys

If a welding head does not shut properly, or if it does not weld, make sure:
● that there is no dirt in the clamp
● that the air supply is correct
● that the BNC cable is connected to the generator
● that the generator is working correctly

If these points are positive, change the welding head:

● remove the back plate
● disconnect the air supply to the clamp
● disconnect the BNC plug of the HF generator
● unscrew and remove the 2 screws on the upper part of the clamp
● unscrew the 4 fixing screws on the clamp and remove the clamp

2 screws attaching
the top cover to the clamp

4 screws attaching
the clamp to the case

● place the new clamp in position and fix it

● reconnect the compressed air and the BNC plug
● replace the back plate

P.S. It is possible to place a sealing head in another direction if needed. There are 4
directions possible.

9. MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

WARNING Before cleaning the unit, switch off the power and disconnect the power
cord.

General cleaning
Always keep the T-ACE II+ clean.
Clean the surface of the T-ACE II+ with soft clots saturated with mild detergent or
a chlorhexidine gluconate solution of less than 0.5%.
When cleaning the T-ACE II+, be careful not to spill any cleaning solutions inside
the instrument. If this occurs, do not operate the instrument.
Professional cleaning and service is required if any liquid (blood, blood product,
cleaning solution or other fluid) is spilled into the internal components of the
machine.

Cleaning the flow regulator and the OD-sensor

Keep the flow regulator and the OD-sensor dry (during normal operation, make
sure that the outside wall of the tube is dry).
If some liquid has been spilled inside, dry the inner parts with a tissue (make sure
no fibres are left inside).

Cleaning the optical detectors on the press

Keep the optical detectors dry (during normal operation, do not use bags that are
wet on the outside).
If some liquid or dirt is spilled on the detectors, dry and clean the parts with a
tissue.

Cleaning the sealing heads

Keep the sealing heads dry (during normal operation, do not use bags that are
wet on the outside).
If some liquid or dirt is spilled into the heads, dry and clean the parts immediately
with a tissue. To clean the electrodes, open the sealing head by unscrewing the
two screws with the Allen key. Do not damage the electrodes with sharp edged
tools.

CAUTION • Abrasive solutions such as acetone, ammoniac or similar, organic

solvents or alcohols shall not be used!
• Do not use sharp edged tools as they can damage the units.
• Do not dip the units in liquid, as they are not waterproof. Intruding
liquid causes malfunction.

(Preventive) maintenance
− To assure safe, trouble free operation, please have your T-ACE II+ serviced at
least every 12 months, depending on the frequency of use.
− If you experience a system failure, please call Terumo or your local Terumo
representative for servicing. When calling for servicing, please be able to
describe the problem and have the serial number available so that faster
handling of the repair will be possible.
− Do not attempt to dismantle or repair the unit. Only qualified personnel are
authorized to service the machine.

WARNING • Disconnect input power before replacing a fuse.

• To avoid fire hazard replace only with specified type and rated fuse
