waves.
III. PROCEDURES
FACE TO FACE LEARNING

A. Preliminaries
1. OPENING PRAYER
2. GREETINGS: Good Morning. Everyone!
3. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE:
4. CLASS RULES
B. ELICIT (Review)
Reviewing previous lesson or
presenting the new lesson

The teacher will show Polarization of light and ask the following;

1. What do you know about light and how it travels?

2. Have you ever heard of polarization? If yes, can you explain
what it means?
3. Can you think of any practical applications of polarized
light?

C. ENGAGE (Motivate)
Establishing a purpose for the 1. Show a short video clip demonstrating the effects of polarized light,
lesson such as reducing glare on water or windows.( See attach file)
2. Display different images of polarized light and ask students to
describe what they see.

After showing video clip and images, The teacher will ask;
"What would be the topic for today's lesson?

D. EXPLORE (Activity)
Presenting examples/instances for The teacher will group the students into three groups. Each group will
the next lessons be given a manila paper and a marker and each of the groups will be
given a different task to do. Each group will present their output in
different learning styles or strategy.

Group 1: Polarization Experiments

Instructions:
-Provide each group with a flashlight and a set of objects.

-Instruct students to shine the flashlight through the objects and

observe the changes in intensity and polarization of the light on the
screen or wall.
- Encourage students to try different orientations and combinations of
objects and filters.

Guide questions for Group 1:

1. What happens to the intensity of light when it passes through a
polarizing filter?
2. How does the orientation of the polarizing filter affect the
polarization of light?

Group 2: Polarizing Filter Design

Instructions:
- Instruct students to design and create their own polarizing filters
using the given materials.
- Provide guidelines on the dimensions and construction of the filters.
- Allow students to test their filters using a light source and observe the
changes in polarization.

Guide questions for Group 2:

1. How does the design and construction of a polarizing filter affect its
effectiveness?
2. What practical applications can you think of for your self-designed
polarizing filter?

Group 3: Practical Applications of Polarized Light

Instructions:
- Provide each student with a pair of sunglasses with polarized lenses.
- Instruct students to observe and describe the changes in visibility and
glare reduction when looking at different reflective surfaces.
- Encourage students to discuss the importance of using polarized
sunglasses for outdoor activities.

Guide questions for Group 3:

1. Why is it important to use polarized sunglasses when engaging in

outdoor activities?
2. How does polarization help reduce glare from reflective surfaces?

E. EXPLAIN (Discussion)
Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills a. Polarization of Light:
- Light waves consist of oscillating electric and magnetic fields.
- Un-polarized light contains waves vibrating in all directions.
- Polarization can occur through selective absorption, transmission,
or reflection, aligning the wave vibrations.
b. Using Polarizing Filters:
- Polarizing filters can selectively block light waves vibrating in
specific directions.
- Rotating the filter can manipulate the orientation of polarized light.
- Useful in photography, reducing glare, and enhancing contrast.
c. Practical Importance of Polarized Light:
- Polarized sunglasses reduce glare from surfaces like water or
roads.
- Polarized light is essential in liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
- Applications in microscopy, 3D movies, and scientific research.
E. ELABORATE/APPLICATION
(Generalizations) 1. Assign students to research and create a poster or presentation on
- Developing mastery other practical applications of polarized light, such as in photography,
- Finding practical applications of LCD screens, or 3D movies.
concepts and skills in daily living 2. Organize a hands-on activity where students use polarizing filters to
- Making generalizations and create art or optical illusions.
abstractions about the lesson
F. EVALUATE
Evaluating learning Directions: Choose the correct answer for each multiple-choice
question and provide a clear essay response for each essay prompt.

1. What is polarization?
a) A type of magnetism
b) A property of light waves
c) The color of light
d) The speed of light

2. Polarized sunglasses are designed to primarily reduce:

a) Light intensity
b) Light speed
c) Light color
d) Light wavelength

3. Which of the following materials can be used as a polarizing filter?

a) Clear glass
b) Regular paper
c) Polarizing film
d) Wood

4. Explain how polarized sunglasses work and provide an example of

when they are useful.
5. Describe one practical application of polarization in technology or
everyday life.
6. What happens to un-polarized light when it passes through a
polarizing filter?

G. EXTEND(Assignment)
- Additional activities for ASSIGNMENT:
application for remediation Design a product that uses polarized light for a specific purpose.
Create a prototype and present it to the class, explaining the principles
of polarization involved and the benefits of your design.
