Discrepancies in data submitted by Nepal Rubber and Engineering :

1. The data regarding elongation provided in field note book and the data later presented by Nepal Rubber
and Engg pvt ltd is not matching. In some cases, field data and presented data varies by more than two
times.
2. The notation for cables in the field notebook and data presented by Nepal Rubber pvt ltd is not the same.
In the field notebook, the notation for cable starts from 2 and ends on 6. But in data presented by Nepal
Rubber pvt ltd, the notation of cable starts from 1 to 5.
3. For Duct no: 1U/S, 1D/S, 2D/S, 4U/S, 4D/S, 5D/S, the elongation seems to have exceeded the maximum
modified elongation. (Duct no.1 shown in picture below).
4. As per field note book, the average extension for cable no 4 U/S is 108.495 mm. The permissible extension

allowed from drawing is only 108 mm.

Fig: Average extension for cable no 4 U/S is (105.33+111.66)/2 = 108.495 mm

Figure: Required extension at each end from provided drawing is only 108 mm.
Two major errors were identified from the given drawing and calculation

table: 1. Calculation of Elongation (Extension):

Given,
According to IS 14268:1995, MOE of cable strand (E): 195000 MPa

The prestressing cable used is 7 ply low relaxation high tensile steel confirming to IS
14268- 1995.
The properties of 19JK13 anchorage and class I cable strands:
No. of cable strands 19

Diameter of each cable strand 12.7mm

Area of each strand 92.9 mm2

Ultimate load carrying capacity 3490 KN

Nominal mass of strand 0.73 kg/m

Minimum breaking strength 160.01 KN

Theoretical extension (Δ)

Where,
P = Applied Jacking Force = 259.72 Tonne = 2597.2 KN
L = Length of cable =
