Harmony & Analysis 3: Chapter 27 Assignment (Diatonic Modulation)

© 2024, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney.

Tutor: o Alisa Bernhard o Lewis Cornwell

1. Complete the lower three voices of this chorale fragment. Each fermata sign indicates a
cadence—note that some are imperfect cadences!

Where bass notes are given without inner voices, the bass is figured. You may wish to
add some embellishments in Bach style, but there's no need for anything elaborate. The
chorale melody (soprano) should not be altered.

Provide a Roman numeral analysis under your harmonisation and clearly indicate any
new key areas and pivot chords, where appropriate.

Question Two is on page 2.

2. Make a voice leading reduction of the following excerpt, based on the Violin 1 and Basso parts. Note that the horn parts are
notated in E b . Include a Roman numeral analysis under your reduction and clearly indicate any new key area and pivot chord(s).
Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach,
Keyboard Concerto in E b, W II/5 (1792), II.
