Policy #: 118 INTERPRETER TECHNOLOGY & INTERNET REQUIREMENTS

PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to describe LanguageLine Solutions policy regarding the proper
connectivity, equipment and workspace requirements that interpreters must comply with in order to
successfully provide services to our customers.

GENERAL POLICY
Below is a detailed list of requirements based on an interpreter’s status – Mobile App Interpreter, or LINC
(Audio or Video) Interpreter. It is critical to service delivery that interpreters comply with all of these
requirements in order to maintain an ongoing working relationship with LanguageLine Solutions.

CONNECTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
1. Interpreters must have a reliable, fixed line, high speed internet connection, dedicated for work.
Wireless ISP subscriptions are prohibited. A wireless ISP is an Internet Service Provider whose
network is based on wireless data connections.
2. Using a shared/ community service, satellite service, hotspots, mobile WiFi device or public
network is strictly prohibited.
3. Interpreters must be on a device connected to their home internet while using the speed test URL
provided. Interpreter’s speed test results must meet the following requirements:
• Download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps
• Upload speeds of no less than 3 Mbps
• Ping value of no more than 300 ms
• Jitter Value of no more than 30 ms
4. The speed Test URL to be used is determined by the interpreter’s location:
• North America ‐ http://speedtest.llsapi.com/
• Europe ‐ http://speedtest‐eu.llsapi.com/
• Asia Pacific ‐ http://speedtest‐ap.llsapi.com/
• South America – http://speedtest‐sa.llsapi.com/
5. Interpreters may only work from the location where they have been approved. See Policy #122
for information on changing addresses.
6. Personal wireless routers, or WiFi extenders are not preferred, but are allowed, provided that the
Interpreter and their device are located as near to the router as possible. A separation by floors is
discouraged, as it degrades the signal necessary for call quality.
7. The LINC interpreter’s router/modem needs to have the capability to broadcast WiFi to any area
that is used for Interpretation or within distance for LINC Interpreters, in case a wired connection
is needed, as long as the requirements in #3 above are met.
8. VPN’s (Virtual Private Network) may not be used while taking calls.
9. Mobile App Interpreters must keep the Mobile Interpreter application open (do not put in
background) during working hours except while actively troubleshooting.
