WHAT IS MUN?

MUN
Model United Nations, commonly referred to as
MUN, is an educational simulation where
students can learn about diplomacy, international
relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves
participants, known as delegates, who are
assigned countries, organizations, or leaders to
represent in simulated sessions of the UN.
Delegates engage in researching, public speaking,
debating, writing skills, critical thinking,
teamwork, and leadership abilities.
HISTORY
The first MUN conference was held at St.
Lawrence University in New York in 1949, just a
few years after the formation of the United
Nations in 1945. The idea was to allow students
to enact roles as delegates to the United Nations
and simulate UN committees. This educational
concept spread rapidly across American
colleges and high schools and eventually
became a global phenomenon. Today,
thousands of MUNs are hosted in schools and
colleges around the world, involving students
from primary school to university level.

BACKGROUND
The concept of MUN was inspired by students' simulations of the League of Nations, the precursor to the
United Nations, that started in the early 1920s. Over the decades, these simulations gained popularity as
they provided insightful educational experiences through role-playing, engaging students in current
events, international policies, and the dynamics of international relations.

Addressing modern slavery in a
globalised context: Exploring collaborative
solutions and mitigation
strategies.
 Modern slavery, encompassing forced labor, human
trafficking, and other forms of exploitation, persists as a
grave human rights issue in our increasingly interconnected
world.Globalisation has facilitated the movement of goods,
services, and people across borders, but it has also provided
opportunities for criminal networks to exploit vulnerable
populations. The complexity of global supply chains and the
demand for cheap labor further exacerbate the risk of
modern slavery. Addressing this issue requires collaborative
efforts on a global scale, involving governments,
international organisations, civil society groups, businesses,
and individuals. Effective solutions must go beyond national
boundaries, focusing on prevention, protection of victims,
prosecution of perpetrators, and partnership-building to
create a world where human dignity and freedom are
upheld for all.

Discussing the issue of lack of
access to humanitarian package with special
emphasis on food insecurity as a result of
prevailing armed conflict in Middle east
and African nations.
 The prevalence of armed conflict in Middle Eastern and
African nations has led to dire humanitarian consequences,
particularly concerning food insecurity. Ongoing violence
and insecurity impede the delivery of essential
humanitarian aid, disrupting food access for millions of
vulnerable populations. Additionally, displacement and
disruption of agricultural activities exacerbate food
shortages, while armed groups sometimes exploit control
over food supplies as a tactic of war. Addressing this issue
requires urgent international action, including efforts to
ensure safe and unimpeded access to humanitarian
assistance, uphold international humanitarian law, and
resolve conflicts through diplomatic means.

AGENDA
The question of the impact of private military
security contractors on global
security: Measures to prevent terrorists from
acquiring weapons of mass
destruction.
 The impact of private military security contractors (PMSCs)
on global security intersects with the critical challenge of
preventing terrorists from acquiring weapons of mass
destruction (WMDs). PMSCs operate in diverse regions and
often lack sufficient oversight, potentially creating
opportunities for illicit transfer of WMD-related materials.
This poses significant risks to international security.
Addressing this issue requires strengthening regulatory
frameworks, enhancing oversight, and promoting
international cooperation to mitigate the threat of WMD
proliferation facilitated by PMSCs. At Model United Nations
(MUN), delegates must explore effective strategies to
regulate PMSC activities and prevent their unintended
involvement in facilitating terrorist access to WMDs.

AGENDA
A framework to create economic
opportunities for refugees and displaced
people in a Post-Covid 19 economy while
combating the risk of famine.
In the aftermath of COVID-19, ensuring economic
opportunities for refugees and displaced people is vital to
their well-being and resilience, particularly amidst the risk
of famine. Displacement exacerbates vulnerabilities,
hindering livelihoods and access to resources. Through
deliberation, we must focus on inclusive economic policies,
vocational training, and leveraging technology to integrate
refugees into local economies while addressing the root
causes of famine through sustainable development
approaches. This comprehensive framework aims to
promote resilience and dignified livelihoods for displaced
populations in a post-pandemic era.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by
2030 requires a comprehensive framework that integrates
