SIP/DISSERTATION GUIDELINES
2. Dissertation work may be carried out under the supervision of internal guide from
among the faculty members of the institute. Visiting faculty members, if needed, may act
as Co-Guide, where internal faculty member will be as Principal Guide. For SIP, students
are advised to undertake project work under supervision of external (company) guide
besides internal guide. Regarding allocation of faculty guide (internal), students are
advised to submit their SIP/dissertation topic or area of interest within stipulated time to
the undersigned.
3. The subject matter of the SIP/dissertation work will be finalized by the student in
consultation with the concerned guides.
4. The chapterization plan should follow a logical sequence and there should be
thread of sequential logic running through the SIP/dissertation work. Suggested chapters,
with variations to suit the nature of the SIP/dissertation, may be:
a) Title Page
b) Declaration
c) Certificate from the company (SIP) / supervisor (Dissertation)
d) Acknowledgement
e) Executive Summary
f) Index
g) Content
h) Background
i) Review of Literature
j) Identification of Research Gap
k) Objective & Scope of the Study
l) Methodology
m) Data Collection and Analysis/Interpretation
n) Conclusion & Recommendations
o) Bibliography

5. The SIP/dissertation work ought to be the result of the student’s own efforts, and
not a ‘cut, copy and paste’ job. Copying from books/reports and inclusion of irrelevant
material should be avoided. The report should reflect the candidate’s own understanding,
assimilation and analysis of the subject under study.
6. Emphasis should be given on clarity of thought and expression and lucid
enunciation of what the student wants to say rather than filling up of pages with irrelevant
material. ‘Quality’ is the watchword.
8. One copy of the bound SIP/dissertation report should be submitted along with soft
copy to the concerned coordinator. The title of the SIP/dissertation work undertaken
along with the candidate’s name and Institute Roll Number should feature prominently on
the front cover of the SIP/dissertation report.
9. 100 marks have been assigned for the SIP/dissertation work and 100 marks for
viva-voce examination. The criteria for evaluation of the SIP/dissertation report will
include:
10. The students will have to appear for viva-voce on the basis of the respective
SIP/dissertation reports submitted by them. The students will be required to compulsorily
make a Power Point presentation during the viva-voce. This is intended to test the
candidate’s understanding of the relevant concepts, capacity of logical analysis and clarity
of thinking, inferencing and recommendation/improvements. The viva-voce examination
date will be communicated after the BoS
12. Students are advised to keep inform internal SIP/dissertation guide regarding their
progress by meeting personally at least fortnightly or through e-mail to seek their advise
from time to time.
