Every day we get new information from all corner of the world. Although most of the news
does not affect us, some of them can affect us a lot. Even sometimes news stories may change
our lives as well. One of the most influential news stories that I have gotten was about a
bachelor degree in Turkey, which new was saying that Turkey has changed its admission
program and will not accept the SAT. It was the worst news that a student preparing to study in
Turkey could get.
First of all, most of the international students, who wanted to study in Turkey including myself,
were preparing for the SAT because it was the only option we could opt for. Some students
have been preparing for this exam for more than two years maybe even three years. They got
used to SAT’s questions and could answer them at ease. Students knew everything about the
SAT and it was natural for them. Getting used new system will be challenging for majority of the
students.
Secondly, the new exam, MYOS, which exam we do not know anything about it, will be difficult
for us because we have had a lot of unanswered questions: how many questions will we have;
how many hours will the exam take or which type of topics they will ask. We only know that on
29 May 2022 we will have an exam. How can that exam be effective with this kind of
uncertainty?
Finally, Turkey is a country that has a lot of international students. Many students mean much
different psychology. Changing the admission program affected students’ psychology as well,
thinking that taking the SAT would be sufficient for them. In their opinion, after this exam, they
would achieve their goal. I imagine that in the aftermath of this news they feel bad and
depressed. Just one decision has changed their targets, wishes, dreams, almost everything in
between. Students’ parents worry about their children’s psychology. These types of alterations
make parents and students very insecure.
All in all, let us look at the full part of the glass. From this news story, we learnt that everything
is possible in life, and the main thing is being prepared for all of these decisions. Although there
is this kind of decision, I hope it will be beneficial for all students. Because they deserve the
best achievements in life.
