desh, in the town of Katni,
a young and spirited girl na-
med Riya embarked on a
mission to make a differen-
ce. Inspired by the joint eff-
orts of the Bharat Scouts
and Guides National Headq-
uarters and UNICEF Climate
Leader Action Plan (CLAP),
she took charge of raising
awareness and transformi-
ng the local Jagriti Park Riy-
a's journey began with trai-
ning sessions in Pachmarhi,
where she crafted an Indivi-
dual Action Plan focusing
on saying no to single-use p-
lastic and promoting a heal-
thy lifestyle. With determin-
nation and a clear vision, sh
she decide to make Jagriti
Park free from the clutches
of plastic. Starting on July 5,
2023, Riya and her team tir-
elessly worked to impleme-
nt their project.
Jagriti Park's Eco-Makeover: The Unstoppable Team
Behind the Transformation
Through door-to dorcampa-
aigns, rallies, and drawing
competitions, they spread
awareness about the harmf-
ul effects of single-use plast-
ic on the environment. The
project aimed not only to el-
iminate plastic from the pa-
rk but also to instil a sense
of responsibility among the
public. A major part of their
initiative was waste manag-
ement. Riya and her team p-
laced special bins in the pa-
rk dedicated solely to plast-
ic waste. They conducted cl-
ean-up drives every sunday,
sorting and recycling the
collected plastic materials.
The team made sure thaton-
ly recyclable plastics were
sent for recycling,while non
non recyclable ones were
repurposed for art and craft
projects . Riya also took on
the challenge of increasing
greenery in the park. With
the help of the Scouts, Guid-
es, Rovers, Rangers , and 10
selected school students , th-
ey planted a whopping 500
trees in a once barren area.
