Digital Speed Position Sensors
Digital Speed Position Sensors
Digital Speed Position Sensors
Delphi offers some Digital Speed and Position Sensors with three-
wire voltage, or two-wire current square wave output signal
interfaces. Most of Delphi's Digital Speed and Position Sensors
employ adaptive threshold sensing schemes that improve sensor
performance and reduce the sensitivity of the sensor mounting
location relative to the target.
Benefits
y Modular design based on proven features and assembly processes provides rapid application optimization with
flexible package geometry and high reliability
y Three-wire open collector output, open drain output, or two-wire current output allow flexible controller design
y Accurate square wave output eliminates square-up function in the controller
y Transient protection helps protect against stray electro-magnetic fields interface
y Various mounting applications provide choice of many existing designs, or custom designs
y Adaptive Hall signal schemes provide improved timing accuracy, optimized sensor air gap and tilt sensitivity, and zero
speed sensing capability
y Single element option offers simplified design, and Valid Power on State (VPOS) for camshaft applications to
minimize engine synchronization timing
y Dual element differential option offers extremely accurate gear edge detection, peak detector circuitry that is immune
to tilt or off-center failure mode, and gain-adjust circuitry that reduces the effect of minor gear anomalies
y Enhanced sensing capability helps reduce emissions and improve reliability and drivability
Typical Applications
Delphi Digital Speed and Position Sensors are designed for use with virtually any automotive control
module that will accept a digital input. Typical automotive applications include engine (cam and crank:
speed and position) and transmission (input and output speed).
Because they are designed for demanding applications, Delphi Digital Speed and Position Sensors are
also well-suited for a wide range of non-automotive product applications.
Performance Advantages
Delphi also offers designs that help protect the sensor from
transients and from electromagnetic interference (EMI). Power Delphi offers a wide range of Digital Speed and
can be provided by either battery or regulated voltage Position Sensors to meet a variety of
supplies, enabling even more controller flexibility. Delphi's customer requirements.
Digital Speed and Position Sensors can operate on
conditioned voltage from 4.5 to 16 volts.
