Practice Paper - Specific Questions

Subject: Science Chapter: 8 Motion

Std: IX

General Instructions:
1. The Practice Paper comprises of subjective short and long answer type questions.
2. Attempt all questions.

1. For following question two statements are given – one labelled Assertion
(A) and the other labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these
questions from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below:
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is correct explanation of the assertion (A).
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true, but (R) is not the correct explanation of the assertion
(A).
(c) (A) is true but (R) is false.
(d) (A) is false but (R) is true.

(i) Assertion: Displacement is the shortest distance from one point to another.
Reason: Displacement can never be greater than the distance travelled.
Ans: Both (A) and (R) are true, but (R) is not the correct explanation of the
assertion (A).

(ii) Assertion: Uniform circular motion is called accelerated motion.

Reason: Direction of motion changes at every point, so velocity is not constant.
Ans: Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is correct explanation of the
assertion (A).

Practice Paper - Specific Questions
2. A student is investigating the motion of a car.
The following table gives the data collected by the student about the motion of
the car.
Time (h) 1:00 1:30 2:00 2:30 3:00
Distance (km) 0 30 30 65 100

(a) Plot the distance-time graph for the motion of the car.
Ans:

(b) Find the speed of the car between 2:00 hours and 2:30 hours.
Ans: Speed = slope between 2:00 hours and 2:30 hours.
= 1.17 km/min
(c) Calculate the average speed of the car.
Ans: = 50 km/h
(d) What type of motion is shown by the car? Explain your answer.
Ans: Non- uniform motion
The car covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time.
