Micro Carbon Residue Apparatus

User Manual

WELCOME TO USE OUR KN-4530 Micro Carbon Residue Apparatus(ASTM D4530)

1
Overview
KN-4530 Micro Carbon Residue Apparatus conforms to ASTM D4530
Standard Test Method for Determination of Carbon Residue (Micro
Method). This tester covers the determination of the amount of carbon
residue formed after evaporation and pyrolysis of petroleum materials
under certain conditions and is intended to provide some indication of the
relative coke forming tendency of such materials.

1.Upper lid 2. Coking oven 3. Collection bottle of waste oil

4.Touch screen 5.Power switch 6.Printer 7.Manometer

8.Flowmeter

Features

1, Adjust the nitrogen flow and switch the flow automatically

2, Automatic program heating, according to the curve to control the temperature

and to finish all the test procedures.

3, Touch screen operation, it can print and save the data

3
4, The apparatus equips waste gas recycle system to reduce the exhaustion of toxic

substance.

Self-prepared
1. Nitrogen: Purity≥98.5%, after adopting two-stage regulator the pressure of

nitrogen should be 0kPa~200kPa. In practical application, the minimum airflow

pressure is140kPa

2. Balance: Accuracy ±0.0001g

3. Cooling unit: Dryer or similar sealed container. No desiccant.

Installation and Operation

Installation

1. The distance from the back side to the wall should not be less than 200mm and

the apparatus is supposed to be grounded well.

2. Connect the nitrogen to the connector of the back side, the readout of the

manometer should be about 0.4Mpa.

Operation

1. Sample weighing

1.1. During the sampling and weighing procedure, use tweezers to hold the sample

cell to reduce errors. The sample cell should be abandoned after being used.
4
1.2. Weigh the clean sample cell and record its weight, accurate to 0.1mg.

1.3. Drop proper sample to the bottom of the weighed sample cell (Refer

to table 1), no splashing on the wall and weigh the cell again, accurate to 0.1mg

and record. Put the sample cell with sample on the stand (Maximum: 12).

According to the specified mark number to record the corresponding position of

each sample.
Note: Each sample can have a reference sample to make sure the percentage composition and standard deviation

of carbon residue. This reference sample should be tested over 20 times via the same apparatus to guarantee

the veracity.

1.4. When the result of the reference sample in the range of ±3 times of its

average carbon residue percentage, the result is reliable. When the result out of

the range above. There is something wrong with the test, the test is fail.
