Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics for Grade 6

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
1. Identify the parts and process of multiplying mixed fractions
2. Follow the steps for multiplying a mixed number.
3. Solve the given mathematical equations.
Differentiation/Accommodations:
Represented Disabilities in Class:
 Dyslexia, Developmental Delay
Other Student Needs:
 Student with severe sensitivity
 Student in foster care situation/unstable home situation
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Multiplying Mixed Fraction
a. Reference:

numbers#0-what-are-mixed-numbers
b. Materials:
Visual Aids, Chalk, Blackboard
c. Skills involves:
Identifying, Classifying, Solving
d. Value Focus:
Collaboration with the teacher and their group.

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Students Activity
A. Preliminary
Performing Routinary Activities
a. Prayer
Let’s us pray first. (One student will lead the prayer)
May I request someone lead the prayer?
b. Greetings
Good day Class! Good day Ms. Baino
c. Checking of Attendance
Class I will be checking your attendance. Everyone raises their hand.
So, raise your hand if you are present
d. Review on the previous lesson
What lesson we discuss yesterday (The Class Response)
class? Multiplying of Proper Fraction
Very good class!
Multiplying Proper Fraction or Fraction
starts with the multiplication of the given
numerators, followed by the
multiplication of the denominators. Then,
the resultant fraction is simplified further
and reduced to its lowest terms, if
needed.
B. Before the Lesson
a. Motivation
Okay class we will be having a mini game. Yes!
Are you ready?
Our game will be arranging a scrambled
word. So, I will group you in two. I have here
the scrambled words that you must arrange (One of the group answers)
in 5 minutes. When you find out the answer Bongga! Mix Numbers!
shout your group name and then your group
answer, it means you must have your group
name. Example is bongga. So now Let’s
Start

Very Good Class. The answer is Mix

Numbers. We are now going to tackle this in
today's discussion. So now, let’s proceed to
our next lesson.

C. Lesson Proper
Presentation:
Class our topic for today is all about
“Mixed Numbers and Multiplying Mix
Numbers”

What Are Mixed Numbers

A mixed number is a whole number and
a proper fraction represented together. It
generally represents a number between
any two whole numbers.
Parts of a mixed number
A mixed number is formed by combining
three parts: a whole number, a
numerator, and a denominator. The (Students are listening)
numerator and denominator are part of
the proper fraction that makes the mixed
number.

Multiplying Two Mixed Numbers

Step 1: Convert the mixed numbers into
improper fractions.
Step 2: Multiply the two fractions by
multiplying the numerators and
denominators separately.
Step 3: Convert it into simplified form if
required.
1 1
For example: Multiply 4 2 and 3 3
1 4𝑥2 + 1 9
4 = =
2 2 2
1 3𝑥3 + 1 10
3 = =
3 3 3
1 1 9 10
4 𝑥3 = 𝑥
2 3 2 3
90
= 𝑜𝑟 15

D. Generalization
Is there any question about our topic class?
OK! So, I think you all understand our lesson. None Ma’am!
Now I will be going to ask you some
questions.
Ok! If you really understand our lesson for
today, can you enumerate the parts of a The parts of mixed fraction are
mixed fraction? NUMERATOR, DENOMINATOR and
WHOLE NUMBER!

Correct! Very Good class!

Next, can someone give me the first step in (One of the student answers)
multiplying mixed fractions? The step one is convert the mixed
numbers into improper fractions.
Very Good! Now the second step (One of the student answers)
The second step ma’am is multiplying
the two fractions by multiplying the
numerators and denominators
separately.
Very Good! Okay class, so the last step? (One of the student answers)
The last step is converted it into
simplified form if required.
Very good class! Now give yourselves a
round of applause for listening well to today's
discussion.

E. Application
Now, class, we were having a short quiz
to test if you really understood our
(Students answer their quiz)
discussion. I will give you 5 minutes to
answer. So, please get your notebook
and start answering.
Direction: Identify the parts of Mixed
Fractions. Activity Answer:
1) 1 4
2 1) 1-whole number
2 2- numerator
2) 3 6 4- denominator
3) 5
1 2) 3- whole number
10
4 2- numerator
4) 4 8 6- denominator
5) 10 10
5 3) 5-whole number
1-numerator
10-denominator
4) 4-whole number
4-numerator
8- denominator
5) 10-whole number
5-numerator
10-denominator
F. Evaluation

Ok class! We will be having an activity.

Get one whole sheet of paper. I will give
you 10 minutes to answer. Here are the
activity sheets (handing out the student's
activity sheets), so you may start now. (Students answer their activities)

Direction: Multiply, simplify and express the

product as a mixed fraction. Answer Key:
G. Assignment

Here is your assignment, class. Please

(Students copy their assignment)
copy it into your notebook.

Direction: Multiply the following mixed

numbers and simplify your answer.
