Indian Electronics, Semiconductor opens Ambassador of Vietnam visits Kerela

In a big boost to the state’s nascent semiconductor industry,
the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) -- the
premier industry association dedicated to the growth and development
of the Indian Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM)
industry -- has opened its Kerala chapter. In line with IESA’s mission,
this chapter will catalyse to create a world-class ecosystem to promote
innovation and the adoption of ESDM technologies in Kerala for its
sustainable growth.
He highlighted IESA’s role in creating various national and state-
level semiconductor policies, and the potential opportunities in this
sector for Kerala in India’s ‘Make in India for the World’ initiatives.
In the recent past, seven institutions based in Kerala had bagged the
‘Chip to Startup’ programme offered by the Ministry of Electronics and
Information Technology (MeitY), with a total project outlay of around
Rs 15 crore.
This programme is expected to create around 30 semiconductor IPs
and upskill more than 2,000 engineering students in the next couple
of years in the state. This will significantly lay a strong foundation
for Fabless Semiconductor IPs, SoCs (System on Chips) and systems
ecosystem in the state. The Keltron CMD shared Keltron’s journey since
its inception and its various flagship products.
With a network of seven thriving chapters and membership
exceeding 300, IESA has a legacy of 19 years, driving innovation
solidifying its position as a cornerstone of India’s electronics and
semiconductor sector.
The IESA leadership announced Rijin John, the co-founder and
director of Silizium Circuits Semiconductors and Jyothis Indrabhai, co-
founder & CEO Netrasemi Semiconductors as the IESA Kerala chapter
chairperson and vice-Chairperson respectively.
Nguyen Thanh Hai, Ambassador of Vietnam to India, visited the
Technopark in the capital to explore information technology (IT) and
electronics collaboration opportunities between Vietnam and the
Kerala IT sector.

Kerala government to establish a 237 crore rupee graphene
production facility. The cabinet has approved the establishment of
a graphene production facility as a pilot project in Kerala, with an
allocated budget of Rs 237 crore on a public-private partnership (PPP)
basis. The Kerala Digital University will oversee the implementation,
while the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation
(Kinfra) will act as the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for global
investment.
To facilitate the project, Kinfra is expected to propose a loan from
the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), while an
open tender and expressions of interest (EoI) will be invited from
global players under the supervision of the Kerala Digital University.
A special committee has been formed, chaired by the digital
university, with representatives from the IT and Industries department
to expedite the project. The India Innovation Centre for Graphene
(IICG) will provide essential research support for the initiative, which
was initially proposed in the 2022-23 budget to foster a graphene
ecosystem in the state.

Pradesh:
Mr. Vejju provided a comprehensive
overview of the thriving electronics industry in

mobile manufacturing clusters since 2015,
with a notable presence of consumer durables
and medical electronic devices, particularly
in Visakhapatnam. Major players such as
Wintech, Foxconn, TCL, and Daikin have made
substantial investments in the region.
Clusters and Affordability:
Andhra Pradesh stands out as the only state
with four government-approved electronics
manufacturing clusters. The Tirupathi cluster,
strategically located near Chennai, offers land
at competitive prices, encouraging the growth
of mobile manufacturing and other electronics-
related industries. Mr. Vejju emphasized
that the state follows a cluster model,
identifying hotspots and developing electronic
manufacturing clusters for sustained growth.
Expansion Plans:
Building on the success of existing clusters,
Andhra Pradesh has identified Kadappa as
another node for electronics manufacturing.
With government approval, this greenfield
manufacturing cluster covers approximately
7,000 acres, catering to diverse sectors such
as women entrepreneurs, electric vehicles, and
pharmaceuticals. .
Greenfield Manufacturing:
The newly established cluster near
Kadappa, a greenfield manufacturing initiative,
offers land at rock-bottom prices, the lowest in
the country, at 1.02 lakhs per acre. The plug-
and-play infrastructure is available on a lease
model, making it an attractive proposition for
companies looking to establish a presence in the
region without heavy initial investments. Mr.
Vejju highlighted the strategic pricing strategy
to attract companies while maintaining cost-
effectiveness in operations.

The Haryana government approved the State Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2022 offering several financial incentives to EV manufacturers. A
decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Under this policy, units setting up batteries disposal units will get 15 per cent of FCI up to Rs 1 crore.
The policy provides for employment generation subsidy of Rs 48,000 per employee per annum for 10 years in lieu of Haryana domiciled
manpower being employed with EV companies. Efforts shall be made to convert 100 per cent of the bus fleet owned by Haryana State Transport
Undertakings into electric buses or Fuel Cell Vehicles or other non- fossil-fuel-based technologies by 2030.
The cities of Gurugram & Faridabad will be declared as model Electric Mobility (EM) cities with phase-wise goals to adopt Electric Vehicles

Ather 450 Apex launched
The 450 Apex uses the same 3.7kWh battery pack as the
450X, but claimed IDC range has gone up to 157km due to the
new regenerative braking system. The new system lets you twist
the accelerator 15 degrees backward to slow down the e-scooter
without the brakes, a feature cleverly named ‘Magic Twist’. The
motor on the 450 Apex is rated for 7kW of peak power and is the
only model in Ather’s line-up to get the Warp+ mode. In Warp+,
the company claims a 0-40kph time of just 2.9s and quicker 40-
80kph times compared to the 450X. Moreover, the 450 Apex is
also the only Ather EV that can touch a claimed 100kph in this
quickest mode.
The Apex debuts the new enclosed belt drive system, which
will soon be on all Ather models going forward. However, you
cannot retrofit it to current ones. Design-wise, while the overall
look is the same, the 450 Apex gets a special Indium blue colour
for its body panels with transparent ones at the rear that show off
the bright orange chassis.
China’s Xpeng claims its latest EV model
could be an industry ‘game changer’
China’s Xpeng Motor claims its latest EV model could be an
industry game-changer. The Xpeng G6 is a direct competitor to
Tesla Model Y in size and price. Both cars share similar CLTC
ranges but the Chinese car is 20% less costly at its base price.
Xpeng’s SUV marks its inaugural vehicle to utilize their 800V
SEPA 2.0 platform, which the company claims will cut research,
development and production costs by about one fifth. This
platform includes front and rear aluminum die-casting as well as
cell-to-body integration to facilitate more efficiently packing larger
batteries into vehicles.
Xpeng also claims to feature a 400V fast charging system
which will enable it to charge from 10% to 80% in 19 minutes
and add 300 km of range in 10 minutes. Furthermore, their XNGP
driver assistance system features 31 sensors including two lidars,
12 ultrasonic sensors, five-millimeter wave radars and multiple
