eDynamic Learning User Guide for

Pearson Online Classroom

These courses are packed with content. Is every lesson required?

No. The new eDynamic Learning courses are exciting elective courses that are filled
with engaging material and resources meant to equip students with self-paced
learning and real-world application assessment activities.

Some lessons are programmed with a zero-lesson-day duration and function as

described below:

Student Resources: The lessons in this unit are student reference material to get
students acquainted with the course but are not required. That means they will not
be calculated in overdue lessons, but they will appear on student Planners along
with the next scheduled lesson unless a teacher skips them.

 Course Syllabus
 Required Materials
 Course Vocabulary
 Course Bibliography

Podcasts: Students and teachers may benefit from the Unit podcast if they are
auditory learners, but they are not required and do not count toward lesson
completion. Each unit podcast is available as a supplementary resource if students
want to read along with the lesson text or listen to narrated lessons on-the-go.
There is no content introduced in the podcast that is not also spelled out in the
narrative lessons.

Students and teachers should treat lessons with a zero-lesson-day duration as

reference material. They can either be skipped or marked complete. If there is any
confusion, mark these lessons complete and move on to the next scheduled lesson.

Why do Unit/Lesson numbers not always match?

Because Pearson Virtual Schools licenses this course content from eDynamic
Learning and imports it into our internal learning management system, we are
unable to alter the unit or lesson numbers that appear on the slides. This may lead
to discrepancies, particularly with assignments, assessments, and activities. For
example, an assignment labeled as part of Unit 1 may appear in Unit 3 of this
course. In this case, the assignment is part of the first unit of course content, not
the first unit of the overall course (which includes introductory material in Units 1
and 2). Students should refer to the course syllabus if they have any questions
regarding which assignments, assessments, or activities are associated with the
unit they are working in.

1
Which activities are graded?

Computer-scored: In eDynamic Learning courses, there is a computer-scored quiz

at the end of each unit worth 15 points each; a midterm test, and a final exam
test – each worth 50 points.

Teacher-graded: There are also Activity assignments in each unit which are
associated with Portfolio dropboxes worth 15 points each. It is up to a teacher’s
discretion to determine which, if any, Activity assignments should be skipped.

I’m in an eDynamic Learning course that has Labs and Projects. How do
these work?

The following courses are the exception to the information above as they contain
Lab Dropboxes and/or Projects. These assignments are associated with Portfolio
dropboxes, but they are always worth 15 points, which may deviate from the stated
point value.

 Art in World Cultures

 Cosmetology 1
 Health Science 1
 Health Science 2
 Social Problems 1
 Social Problems 2

Why wouldn't Labs and Projects be weighted to match the stated point value of the assignment?
We are working on making this happen for the following school year. Unfortunately,
technical limitations prevent the Pearson Online Classroom course from having
dropbox items with variable point values. Because the overwhelming majority of
courses contain Activities, we chose to use the activity point value of 15 as the
universal point value for all dropbox items.

Will all these lessons fit into a typical semester?

Yes, all of the assigned content fits into a typical semester timeframe, under 85
lesson days. Most of these courses are set up to be scheduled 2-4 days/week and
two lessons assigned per scheduled lesson day.

2
Can Caretakers and Learning Coaches submit assessments in eDynamic
Learning courses on behalf of their student(s)?

No, at this time, students are the only type of user who have the ability to submit
assessments in eDynamic Learning courses in Pearson Online Classroom.

Why is there a Teacher Resources unit at the end of the course?

The Teacher Resources unit contains answer keys for all teacher-graded
assessments and supplemental activities throughout the course.

While they are part of the course outline at the end of the course, students cannot
see any of the content in this unit. Any roles other than a teacher will intentionally
see this message if they try to access the Teacher Resources:

Although the contents are permissioned only for teachers to see, these lessons will
appear on student Planners unless they are skipped. We highly recommend
Teachers skip all content in the Teacher Resources unit. Skipping these
lessons will prevent them from appearing on student Planners.
