Family Tree Continuum-Construct Rizal’s family tree incorporating timeline


continuum starting from ancestors of his parents.

DOMINGO LAM-CO
- A Chinese immigrant and business tycoon Don Domingo Lamco (Chinese name: Cue Yi-Lam) of
Laguna was the great-great grandfather of Jose Rizal. Lamco is originally from Amoy China who
came to the Philippines in the mid 17th century.

INES DE LA ROSA
- Great-great-grandmother of Jose Rizal. She is the wife of Domingo Lam-co. She belonged to an
entrepreneurial family in Binondo. Ines was the daughter of Agustin Chin-co and Jacinta Rafaela,
a Chinese mestiza resident of the Parian.

FRANCISCO MERCADO
- Son of Domingo and Ines, who resided in Biñan. In 1771, Francisco Mercado married Cirila
Bernacha, And was elected gobernadorcillo of Biñan. He is the great-grandfather of Rizal.

CIRILIA BERNACHA
- Wife of Francisco, a Chinese-Filipino mestiza Born in the Hacienda San Pedro Tunasan.

JUAN MERCADO
- Son of Francisco and Cirila, and he is the grandfather of Rizal. He married Cirila Alejandro and
had thirteen children, was also elected gobernadorcillo of Biñan. On many occasions, “Captain
Juan”, as his town mates Referred to him, was the hermano mayor in religious and social affairs.

CIRILIA ALEJANDRO
- Wife of Juan Mercado, a Chinese-Filipinomestiza, and grandmother of Rizal.Born in Biñan,
Laguna, Philippines on 1769.Daughter of Juan Siong-Co and Maria Gonio.

EUGENIO URSUA
- Great-great-grandfather of Jose Rizal.He was of Japanese ancestry.He married a Filipina named
Benigna.

BENIGNA
- Wife of Eugenio Ursua, great-great-grandmother of Rizal.Had one daughter namesd Regina de
Quintos (born Ursua).
REGINA URSUA
- The daughter of Eugenio and Benigna.Was of Spanish, Chinese and Tagalog ancestry. She is
sometimes referred to as an Ochoa.Married Manuel de Quintos.

MANUEL DE QUINTOS
- A Filipino-Chinese lawyer from Pangasinan. Great-grandfather of Jose Rizal in mother’s side

- Daughter of Manuel and Regina, grandmother of Rizal’s mother's side.Married Lorenzo Alberto

LORENZO ALBERTO ALONZO


- A prominent Spanish-Filipino mestizo of Biñan. Father of Teodora, grandfather of Jose Rizal.

TEODORA ALONZO REALONDA


- Mother of Jose Rizal and a wife of Francisco.Born on November 8, 1826 in Manila.Educated at
the College of Santa Rosa(prestigious school for girls in Manila).Taught Jose Spanish language,
made necessary corrections in poem composition and gave good advice in rhetoric.

FRANCISCO MERCADO RIZAL


- Jose Rizal’s Father. Studied Latin and Philosophy at theCollege of San Jose, Manila.Became a
tenant farmer of the Dominican-owned haciendas when his parents died. Born on May 11,
1818. He died in Manila on January 5, 1898, at the age of 80.

SATURNINA HIDALGO y MERCADO


- Eldest of the Rizal children. Her nickname was Neneng. Married Manuel Hidalgo of Batangas

PACIANO MERCADO y ALONZO REALONDA


- Eldest brother of Jose Rizal, the second child.Studied at San Jose College in Manila.Became a
farmer and later a general of thePhilippine Revolution.

NARCISA LOPEZ y MERCADO


- The third child of Rizal’s Family.She married Antonio Lopez at Morong, Rizal; a teacher and
musician.

OLYMPIA UBALDO y MERCADO


- The fourth child of Rizal’s Family.Married Sylvestre Ubaldo, a telegraph operator from Manila.

LUCIA HERBOSO y MERCADO


- The fifth child of Rizal’s Family. Married Matriano Herbosa of Calamba,who was a nephew of
Fr. Casarias.

MARIA MERCADO
- Her nickname was Biang and the sixth child.Married Daniel Faustino Cruz of Binan, Laguna.
JOSE RIZAL
- The second son and the seventh child.Known as Dr. Jose P. RizalHe was executed by the
Spaniards on December 30,1896.He was born on June 19, 1861 at the town of Calamba, Laguna.

CONCEPCION MERCADO
- The eighth child of Rizal’s Family. She died of sickness at 3.Her death was the first sorrow of
Jose Rizal.

JOSEFA MERCADO
- The ninth child. She died an old maid at the age of 80.

TRINIDAD MERCADO
- The tenth child.Also died an old maid at the age of 83 and the last of the family to die.

SOLEDAD MERCADO
- The last and youngest child.Married to Pantaleon Quintero of Calamba.
