1. What would be the work done if a point charge +q is taken from a point A to a point B
on the circumference of a circle drawn with another point charge +q at the centre?

2. A uniform electric field exists between two charged plates as shown in the fig. What

Surface A is given a positive potential of 10V and the outer surface of B is earthed.

5. Two capacitors when connected in series the effective capacity is 2μF and when in
parallel is 9μF. Calculate the value of each capacitors.

6. A test charge q is moved without acceleration from A to C along the path from A to B
and then from B to C in electric field E as shown in the figure.

(i) Calculate the potential difference between A and C.

8. (i) A 900pF capacitor is charged by 100V battery. how much electrostatic energy is
stored by the capacitor?
(ii) The capacitor is disconnected from the battery and connected to another 900pF
capacitor. What is the electrostatic energy stored by the system?

9. A certain capacitor is charged to a potential V. By what percentage the potential to be


increased, so that energy increases by 10%?

10. Two condensers each of capacitance 2μF are connected in parallel and this
combination is connected in series with a 12μF capacitor. The resultant capacity of
the system will be:

(a) 16µF (b) 13 µF (c ) 3 µF (d) 6µF

11. What is the capacity having a plate area A of the figure given below?

12. Two parallel plate capacitors X and Y have the same area of plates and same
separation between them. X has air between the plates while Y contains a dielectric
medium of εr = 4.

(i) Calculate capacitance of each capacitor if equivalent capacitance of the


combination is 4μF.
(ii) Calculate the potential difference between the plates of X and Y.
(iii) Estimate the ratio of electrostatic energy stored in X and Y.

13. A charge Q is distributed over two concentric hollow spheres of radii r and R where
R > r such that the surface densities are equal. Then the potential at the common

electric field due to this charge array at the centre of the cube.

17. A 600 pF capacitor is charged by a 200 V supply. It is then disconnected from the
supply and is connected to another uncharged 600 pF capacitor. How much
electrostatic energy is lost in the process?

18. The figure shows two identical parallel plate capacitors connected to a battery with
the switch S closed. The switch is now opened and the free space between the plates
of the capacitors is filled with a dielectric of dielectric constant 3. Find the ratio of the
total electrostatic energy stored in both capacitors before and after the introduction of
the dielectric.

19. The electric field outside a charged long straight wire is given by E=1000 / r Vm−1, and
is directed outwards.
(a) What is the sign of the charge on the wire?
(b) If two points A and B are situated in such a wat that rA=0.2m and rB = 0.4m then.
Calculate the value of (VB−VA).

20. (i)Four capacitors are connected in a circuit as shown in the figure. The effective
capacitance in μ F between points A and B will be:

(ii)Four capacitors are connected as shown in the figure. Calculate the equivalent
capacitance between the points X and Y.
