Introduction:
Universities are assuming a crucial role in environmental management by committing to
achieve carbon neutrality, in a movement known as "Raze to Zero." This process involves
policies, infrastructure improvements, behavior change campaigns, and collaborations with
external stakeholders. By doing so, they not only align with global sustainability goals but also
become leaders in environmental responsibility, fostering a culture of sustainability on their
campuses. This study seeks to provide suggestions and challenges for more universities to join
the Raze to Zero Project, identifying trends, innovative approaches, and lessons learned. Its aim
is to contribute to the knowledge about sustainability management on campus, highlighting
the transformative potential of higher education institutions to address environmental
challenges at local, national, and global scales.

Building Automation Systems (BAS) have emerged as a cornerstone in modern building

management, offering a comprehensive solution to optimize energy consumption, improve
operational efficiency, and promote sustainability. This research aims to delve into the intricate
dynamics of BAS, examining their functioning, technological foundations, and the profound
implications they have for energy consumption within buildings.

Background:

Traditional building management systems often rely on manual control and supervision,
leading to inefficiencies and suboptimal energy usage. In contrast, BAS harness advanced
technologies to automate and optimize various building systems, including HVAC (heating,
ventilation, and air conditioning), lighting, security, and occupancy management.

Aims:
The main objective of this research is to thoroughly analyze how Building Automation Systems
impact energy consumption, identifying their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats (SWOT), as well as exploring the technological tools used in these systems and
presenting the results obtained through comprehensive analysis, all aimed at contributing to
making our university campus more sustainable.
