EXAMINATION REPORT
SUB: "Erode Turmeric" G.I. Application No.231 - Reg.

Sir / Madam,

The above numbered application has been examined as per the provisions of
Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act and Rules. I
am directed to issue the Examination Report under Rule 33 of the Geographical
Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Rules, 2OO2 for compliance
with the requirements stated as under within the prescribed time:
. To file an amended application along with logo for better identification and
protection of GI rights.
. The demarcation of GI Area: clarity is required on the area of demarcation under
Erode Turmeric, A fair study / exercise to be undertaken in high lighting the GI
Area may be submitted along with documentary evidence. If any part of the area is
included, the reason for the same should be provided with supporting documents,
The certified map clearly mentioning latitude and longitudes with specific
demarcated area of actual oroduction area to be submitted,.
. The committee suggests having open membership with the applicant association for
new members; to that effect the Memorandum and Articles of Association should
be amended. Provide the list of farmers associated with the applicant association
. Uniqueness of the product to be explained and differentiate with the other similar
product with supportive scientific evidence.
. The Cur-cumin range of the product should be detailed with laboratory repoft.
e The Applicants should produce Documentary proof in respect of Historical Data and
proof of origin including gazetteers regarding the GI product.
. The details of the Inspection Committee Body to be provided. It should be
strengthened with an independent neutral agency to maintain the quality of GI
product and consent letter to be obtained from the inspecting authority,

The Applicant has to revise the application in respect of the above requirements and
resubmit an amended application within prescribed time of One month from the date of
receipt of the examination report, Failing which your attention is invited to Rule 3aQ) of
the Geographical Indications of goods (Registration & Protection) Rules 2002, the
application shall be dismissed as per Act and Rules.
