Standard: FL1.3 Ability to speak and write about information, concepts, and
views on various matters.
Indicator: Speak and write to describe themselves, their daily routines,
experiences, and news/incidents of interest to society.

Terminal Objective: - To identify the difference between Gerund and Present


Participle and to use them correctly according to the grammatical rules.
Enabling Objectives:
Warm-up - To identify the role of the -ing form as a noun or adjective
Presentation - To identify Gerund and Present Participle and to use the correct
form of the -ing form.
Practice - To use Gerund and Present Participle to answer the questions
correctly
Production - To create and write Gerund and Present Participle sentences by
using the words, which is provided.

Language content:
1. Grammar:
Gerund - it acts like a noun. It can be a subject, an object, the object
of a preposition, or a subject complement.
Participle – it acts like an adjective that modifies a noun or follows
the be verb.
How to add -ing
1). If the verb ends in an E we remove the E and add ING.
Infinitive ING form
to have having
to make making
to take taking
2). If the verb ends in a consonant + vowel + consonant, we double the
final consonant and add ING.
Infinitive ING form
to stop stopping
to plan planning
to swim swimming
3). If the verb ends in IE we change it to Y ING.
Infinitive ING form
to lie lying

to tie tying
4. The general rule when changing a verb into its -ING form is just to add -
ING to the end of the verb

(5 mins) Instructions: Guess the role of the -ing form as a Ss-T
noun or adjective.
1. Greets the students and reviews a noun and
adjectives.
2. Give the students instructions about the
activity: Guess the role of the -ing form as a noun
or adjective.
3. Give the students sentences and asks the
question, “What’s my role? And students answer
that the sentences are nouns or adjectives
A. Expected response from Ss: Students can
guess the role of the -ing form as a noun or
adjective from the teacher’s sentences.
B. Anticipated problem(s): The student may be
confused about the -ing form that why it can be
a noun or adjective.
Presentation Instructions: T-Ss Canva
(8 mins) 1. Introduce Gerund and Present Participle. Ss-T
2. Explain the difference between Gerund and
Present Participle and how to use them.
3. Explain the rule of the -ing form and give
examples.
4. Let students change the verbs to the -ing form

4. Students look at the questions and then
choose the best answer for each question.
5. Students in ranks 1-3 will be the winner and be
rewarded.

- Divide students into four teams.
- Students in the team randomly select a
flash card.
- Students have to create and write Gerund
and Present Participle sentences for short
