GREETINGS!
I have been creating freelance artwork and writing since
1984. I have worked in a variety of mediums and worked on
everything from comic books, tabletop role playing games
and text books. This document covers my professional rates
for 2017.

EXCLUSIVE vs ONE TIME RIGHTS

The listed rates imply that you are buying exclusive rights
for publication and reproduction in any way you see fit
(book, miniature, design, t-shirt). If you are purchasing one
time rights that allow me to republish and sell the same art-
work you commissioned in another document the fees are
halved. A standard colour full page illustration, for example,
would normally cost $200, but a one time rights image
would only cost $100.

COMMISSIONS vs PROFESSIONAL USE

Commissions for personal use are always charged as One
Time Rights, but if you intend to use the images for Profes-
sional Use (making a profit) you must decide between an
Exclusive or One Time Rights when you purchase the art-
work. If you change your mind you can always contact me
and pay the difference. Please don’t hesitate to contact me
with your projects.

Cover art is made to your specifications and
should take into account bleed space as well
as eye-catching imagery that attracts the
viewer and excites the imagination. All files
are in PSD or TIFF format at 300 DPI.

Cover fees vary depending on the complexity

of the job and usually start at $250-$350 for a
basic full colour cover. Full Wraparound cov-
ers cost $500 or more depending on the work
involved.

All files are in PSD or TIFF format at 300
DPI.

Illustration fees vary depending on the size

fee list as a starting point.

1/4 Page (Small) Illustrations: $30 colour and

$20 B&W.

1/2 Page (Medium) Illustrations: $100 co-

lour and $60 B&W

Full Page (Large)

30mm flat models. All files are in
PDF, PSD or TIFF format (your
choice) at 300 DPI.

 sequential art
Sequential (comic) art is much
more complicated and involved
than standard illustration. It in-
cludes artwork (often 4-8 draw-
ings per page), layout, graphic de-
sign and lettering. To reasonably
compensate an artist for one page
of sequential art seems almost
cost prohibitive, but considering
the amount of detail and effort
the cost reflects the commitment
involved. All files are in PSD or
TIFF format at 300 DPI.

Illustration fees vary depending

on the size and complexity of the
job. Use the following fee list as a
starting point.

1 Comic Strip Page (1/2 page):

$120 colour and $80 B&W (in-
cludes lettering).

1 Comic Book Page: $220 colour

and $170 B&W (includes letter-
ing).
