A standard type parallel interface (Centronics) printer may be connected to the

RT5020/RT5022 VHF for printing of DSC messages.

Using the Sailor/T&T TT-3608/H1252B (Oki Microline 280) Printer

For details on the installation of the TT-3608/H1252B printer refer to the

M1252GB manual available for download at the Extranet/eSupport.

For details on the installation of the RT5020/22 VHF DSC refer to the Operation
Manual B5022GB0 available for download at the Extranet/eSupport.

Note: Printout is supported for the languages available in the RT5020/22. The
TT-3608/H1252B printer’s character set “Latin 6” has been found to best support
the implemented languages.

Using other printers

Other printer types – including laser printers – may be used with the Sailor
VHF5000 series equipment. For installation of other printers refer to the
manufacturers’ instructions. Thrane & Thrane A/S cannot be held responsible for
the proper operation of other types of printer.

Interfacing a printer to the RT5020/RT5022

Interfacing a printer to the VHF5000 series requires additional hardware in form
of a Sailor LAN Box LB5007 (p/n 8050070007) and a “printer server”. This
printer server should be sourced locally.

Acquiring a printer server

For the following three printer servers proper operation has been verified during
development of the printing client in the LB5007:

• D-Link DP 301P+ (Parallel)

However, most printer servers supporting the LPR printing protocols will provide
printing capability from the RT5020/22 using the LB5007 LAN Box. The above
mentioned printer servers are delivered with a normal AC to DC power supply. If
AC power is not readily available or reliable on board the vessel, it may be
necessary to source power from the ship DC power (e.g. 12V or 24V). Examples
of power converters to use for the printer server are:

• An inverter solution (e.g. 12/24VDC > 230 VAC) to supply the original
server AC to >DC power supply. Search e.g. under www.shipshop.dk
• A DC-DC converter (e.g. 24VDC > 5VDC) which may be used in place of
the original server supply. e.g. PMG/PCMG 15 – www.mtm-power.dk

Setting up and configuring of the printer server varies from one manufacturer to
another. However, as a rule of thumb any printer server which is configurable in
regards to its IP-address, supports LPR printing and is capable of interfacing to
the selected printer can be configured to provide the printing facility. Printer
system configuration is to be done in the LB5007 for which three parameters
must be given:

• IP-address / DHCP configuration of printer.

• Name of printing que (is normally stated in the documentation for the
specific printer under the LPR section).
• Type of printer & type of paper (laser / matrix & single sheet / tractor feed
paper).

These settings are configured and stored in the LB5007. Refer to the SB5006
Operation Manual on how to accomplish this.

Connecting the LB5007 LAN box

Connection of the printer server with the LAN Box LB5007 must be done using a
crossed Ethernet cable. Alternatively, if operating in an office environment, an
Ethernet HUB can be used, in which case the HUB does the terminal-terminal
signal crossover inside.
Note: The LB5007 Lan Box is not qualified/authorized to operate directly on the
internet, so refrain from plugging it into an open internet connection. The router
to the internet would probably not allow this anyway.

The LB5007 may also be used as service box. In installations with a LB5007 the
service PC may be connected in place of the printer server during
service/configuration of the VHF equipment.

Action:
