V. Definition of Terms

Home Automation- Home automation is a network of hardware,

communication, and electronic interfaces that work to integrate everyday

devices with one another via the Internet. Each device has sensors and is

connected through WiFi, so you can manage them from your smartphone or

tablet whether you’re at home, or miles away.

Sensors- A sensor is a device that detects and responds to some type

of input from the physical environment. The input can be light, heat, motion,

moisture, pressure or any number of other environmental phenomena.

Clap Sensors- A Clap switch circuit uses a microphone within the circuit

to detect noises to turn the LED on.

Hand sweep Sensors- The hand sensor can be thought of as a light

switch that only requires the wave of your hand to operate your lights.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter presents a summary of the published literature and studies

related to the construction delay perceptions of experienced and

inexperienced civil engineers. This includes interpretation from books,

journals, and the internet. This chapter also shows the conceptual paradigm

of the study.

Home Automation

In the study of Satyendra K Vishwakarma (2019), suggests a clever,

energy-efficient home automation system that can access and control

domestic appliances from any location in the globe. In this system, an

Internet-connected Internet connectivity module is connected to the home

system's Internet-accessible main supply unit. You use the static IP address

when you communicate wirelessly. The core of home automation is a

multimodal application that may be controlled by voice commands using voice

recognition software such as Google Assistant or through a web application.

Consequently, enhancing the security and intelligence of our home

automation system is our main objective.

Many technologies enhanced our daily lives. Ismail (2023), stated that

technology improved many people's daily activities, and may also give

lighting. In order to eliminate the need for physical touch while controlling

12
lights, the author here intends to develop a tool prototype with a system that

can turn lights on and off by turning off different lights and efficiency. to directly

detect and operate the lights based on human movement without requiring the

user to touch the lamp's switch. The Arduino Uno microcontroller serves as

the system's brain, while the author uses the FC-04 sound sensor as input.

The prospect of residing in a contemporary, cozy home like a smart

house excites humans. In this study, a low-cost, functional prototype of a

smart home was created. A set of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) is included in

the prototype. The prototype's LEDs are treated like household appliances,

and their ON/OFF operation is dependent on the ability to identify fist and

palm gestures in real-time video (Al-Saleh A., Haidar J. Mohamad H., &

Daway G. 2020).

In the countless technologies of our modern world, home automation is

one of the systems that is implemented today. The Internet of Things (IoT)

plays a vital role in our modern world. According to Shah & Mahmood (2020),

The use of automation is emerging with the help of the internet providing the

possibility of objects to work it-self. With recent advancements to the fast

speed internet, IoT will be playing a vital role in our daily tasks in present and

future. IoT is offering feasibility and effectiveness to the systems that are

based upon it. These modern technologies are creating comfort and standard

way of living because of its time, energy and cost efficiency. In this modern

world, where things are going to be on our fingertips, our daily household

appliances will also be controlled with our smartphones. This will allow us to

manage the usage smartly, and can help in building an eco-friendly

13
environment.

In the study of Sowah (2020), also stated that there is rapid interest

growing in the use of smart, connected devices. The developing world market

for smart technology is evolving to adapt and adapt to the interconnected

world of devices leading to the Internet of Things (IoT) everywhere. This

research paper presents the design, development, and deployment of a

prototype for the secure wireless home automation system with OpenHAB 2.

Clap Sensor

According to Lesser (2019), the effectiveness of an auditory training

system depends on how successfully each user can clap their hands "in time"

in response to a signal. Each system must be able to discriminate between

the claps of a single user and background claps from other adjacent users

because it is designed for a scenario where a complete class of pupils is

participating in this instruction concurrently. The clap sound's absolute energy,

its source azimuth (as determined by stereo microphones), and its range as

indicated by the direct-to-reverberant energy balance are among the cues that

can be used for this discrimination. In a corpus of 1650 claps recorded in

authentic classroom settings, we propose a set of features to capture these

cues and describe our results on identifying and differentiating between

'near-field' and 'far-field' claps.

In the myriad technologies hand sweep and clap sensor switches

contributed a lot to our daily activities. Mahmood (2020), emphasizes the

significant increase in interest in home automation systems. Internet of Things

14
(IoT) applications that make use of the internet to monitor and operate

equipment are essential for home automation to perform their own task.

These modern technologies are efficient with time, energy, and money, they

are fostering comfort and a standard of living.

There are a lot of ways to improve our life when it comes to home

automation. In the study of Kader (2019), explains a technique that uses hand

clapping to operate the switchboard in our house or place of business. A

single hand clap can turn on a light, turn on a fan with two similar claps, and

turn on another load with three claps. The switch board can be locked by four

matching claps, preventing any unwanted noise from interfering with regular

functioning. Clap sounds are converted to electrical signals using a condenser

microphone. A microprocessor receives the sensor's output, interprets it, and

counts the number of claps to operate the associated appliance. The system's

benefit is that the user can operate his appliance without the need for a

separate remote controller or mechanical switch.

The study of Sutra (2018), describes a system where the switchboard of

our home or office can be controlled by the sound of hand clapping. A

single hand clap can switch light, two corresponding claps can switch fans

and three corresponding claps can switch another load. Four

corresponding claps can lock the switch board so that any unwanted

sound cannot obstruct the normal operation. A condenser microphone

converts the sound of clapping to an electrical signal. The output of the

sensor is connected to a microcontroller which processes the signal and

counts the number of claps to control the corresponding appliance. The

15
advantage of the system is that the user should not use any mechanical

switch or additional remote controller to control his appliance.

Hand Sweep

In the study of Heunish (2019), he emphasizes the importance of pulsed

millimeter wave radar for hand gesture sensing that the 144 Hz pulsed

millimeter wave radar is used to capture 2160 scattering characteristics of 12

common hand movements. With a validation accuracy of 99.5%, this

produces outstanding classification results with a 60% training versus 40%

validation split.
