TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

ASFIER 211
Emulsifier for cationic slow setting
asphalt emulsions

DESCRIPTION.
ASFIER 211 is a liquid emulsifier for the manufacture of cationic slow-setting emulsions.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES.
Appearance at 25°C: Liquid.
Classification: Cationic Surfactant.
Density g/cm3 at 25°C: 1.1 aprox.
Water solubility: Soluble.

SPECIFICATIONS.
Volatile Matter (weight %): 55.0 – 62.0
3% pH: 3.0 - 4.0
Nitrogen (weight %): 1.4 - 2.0

TYPICAL APPLICATION.
Emulsions prepared with ASFIER 211 provide extended workability time to dense mixes
based on crushed aggregate, reclaimed asphalt pavement or soils.

Emulsions prepared from ASFIER 211 allow adequate mix time with aggregates and
high temperatures, without the need for additives in Slurry Seal applications.

ASFIER 211 may separate during storage and should be agitated before use.

A recommended formulation for Cationic slow Setting emulsion is described in the
following table:

RECOMMENDED FORMULATION
(based in 1000 kg of emulsion)
Asphalt 600 - 620 kg
Water 380 - 400 kg
ASFIER 211 12.0 - 15.0 kg
Hydrochloric acid Adjust pH 1.6 to 1.8
Total 1000 kg

The following graph shows the approximated liters of hydrochloric acid (29% active) per
ton of emulsion necessary to neutralize ASFIER 211 at recommended dosage, to obtain
the required pH:

flames, strong oxidizing agents or any ignition sources.

FIRST AID.
In case of exposure with:
Eyes: Flush eyes immediately with aqueous boric acid solution (0.5-1.0%) lifting upper
and lower lids occasionally. After that, wash with large amounts of water for at least 15
minutes. Obtain medical attention promptly.

Skin: Remove all contaminated clothes and wash the affected areas with aqueous
acetic acid solution (3%). After that, wash with plenty water and soap for at least 15
minutes. If necessary obtain medical attention.
In case of :
Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air and keep warm. Give oxygen or artificial
respiration If necessary. Obtain medical attention promptly.

Swallowing: If victim is conscious give at least two glasses of water or lightly acidified
water with vinegar to neutralize. “Never give something to drink to an unconscious
person”. Do not induce vomiting; this is a caustic and corrosive compound. Obtain
