TOOLS
A Spatula is a broad, flat,
flexible blade used to mix,
spread and lift material
including foods, drugs, plaster
and paints. In medical
applications, "spatula" may also
be used synonymously with
tongue depressor.

Tongs are a type of tool used to

grip and lift objects instead of
holding them directly with
hands. There are many forms of
tongs adapted to their specific
use. Design variations include
resting points so that the
working end of the tongs does
not come into contact with a
bench surface.
A peeler is a kitchen tool, a
distinct type of kitchen knife,
consisting of a metal blade with
a slot with a sharp edge
attached to a handle, used to
remove the outer layer of some
vegetables such as potatoes,
broccoli stalks, and carrots, and
fruits such as apples and pears.

A measuring cup is a kitchen

utensil used primarily to
measure the volume of liquid or
bulk solid cooking ingredients
such as flour and sugar,
especially for volumes from
about 50 mL (approx. 2 fl oz)
upwards. Measuring cups are
also used to measure washing
powder, liquid detergents and
bleach for clothes washing. The
cup will usually have a scale
marked in cups and fractions of
a cup, and often with fluid
measure and weight of a
selection of dry foodstuffs.
Boning Knife: As the name
suggests, the boning knife is
primarily used for separating
meat from bones, making it a
valuable tool in butchery and
food preparation. It has a thin,
flexible blade with a pointed tip,
allowing for precise and
controlled maneuvering around
bones and joints. The boning
knife is commonly used for
deboning meat, poultry, and
fish.

Chef's Knife: Also known as a

cook's knife or French knife, the
chef's knife is a versatile, all-
purpose knife with a broad,
curved blade. It is typically
used for chopping, slicing,
dicing, and mincing a wide
range of ingredients, such as
vegetables, fruits, herbs, and
meats. The length of the blade
can vary, but it is usually
between 6-12 inches (15-30 cm)
long.
Kitchen Shears: Kitchen shears,
also referred to as kitchen
scissors, are specialized
scissors designed for use in the
kitchen. They are commonly
used for cutting and trimming
various food items, such as
poultry, herbs, and vegetables.
Some kitchen shears may also
have additional features, such
as bottle opening capabilities
or nutcracker functions.

Utility Knife: The utility knife is a

smaller version of the chef's
knife, generally with a narrower
and straighter blade. It is ideal
for tasks that require precision
and control, such as cutting
small fruits, trimming
vegetables, or slicing
sandwiches. The length of a
utility knife typically ranges
from 4-7 inches (10-18 cm).
A grater, also known as a
shredder, is a kitchen utensil
used to grate foods into fine
pieces.

A cutting board is a solid, flat

board used during food
preparation or service to
protect countertops and other
surfaces from damage while
slicing food items. They also
prevent cross-contamination in
the kitchen by providing
separate places to prepare
different foods, such as raw
meat and vegetables.
piping bag is a kitchen tool
used for decorating cakes, pies,
cookies, and other pastries, and
also for squeezing doughs,
batters, creams and puréed
ingredients like potatoes onto
platters or baking sheets

A sifter is used to separate and

break up clumps in dry
ingredients such as flour, as
well as to aerate and combine
them. A strainer (see Colander),
meanwhile, is a form of sieve
used to separate suspended
solids from a liquid by filtration.
The purpose of a strainer is to
remove larger, unwanted
suspended particles from a
liquid, primarily to protect
downstream equipment, like
pumps, from damage. They
come in a variety of shapes and
sizes, depending on the
application, but one feature is
essential – strainers are
designed for easy removal and
cleaning.

Scrapers in the culinary world

are exactly that: tools that were
made to scrape pastes, batters,
and other ingredients from
bowls, plates, and other
surfaces. A rubber scraper is
handy in the kitchen since it
can mold to the shape of the
bowl or whatever container you
are using to get every last bit
out.
A Pastry blender, also known as
a Pastry Cutter or Dough
Blender, is a kitchen tool used
to mix solid fat into flour to
make pastries. It's a handheld
tool with a handle and metal
strips, wires, or blades
attached. The tool is used by
pressing down on the
ingredients to be mixed well.

A Paring knife is a small knife

with a short blade used for
cutting and peeling fruit and
vegetables. It is also utilize for
slicing small ingredients and for
detailed and controlled cutting.

A Dietetic Scale, also known as
a Portion Scale, are designed to
measure small quantity of food
in grams up to 2000 grams.
They can help consumers weigh
the nutritional value of food
and compare it to daily limits,
yet this include a bar code
reader that identifies food
products from their packaging.
The scale then retrieves food
content data from a database.

A hand mixer is a kitchen

appliance used for mixing,
beating, and whipping
ingredients. It is handheld and
typically consists of two beaters
or whisk attachments that
rotate to blend the ingredients
together. Hand mixers are
commonly used for tasks such
as making cake batter,
whipping cream, mixing cookie
dough, and beating eggs. They
are convenient, easy to use,
and offer more control
compared to larger stand
mixers.
An Electric Stand Mixer is a
heavy-duty mixer that is built
into a stationary stand with a
bowl. It is a kitchen device that
uses a gear-driven mechanism
to rotate a set of beaters in a
bowl, these be used for mixing,
mashing, whipping, and other
in-bowl functions that help with
baking and large batch meal
prep.

A baking sheet, also known as a

cookie sheet or baking tray, is a
flat, rectangular metal pan
used for baking in the oven. It is
typically made of aluminum or
stainless steel and has a
shallow rim around the edges to
prevent liquids or food from
spilling over. Baking sheets are
commonly used for baking
cookies, pastries, bread, and
other baked goods. They
provide a flat surface for even
heat distribution, allowing the
food to cook or bake evenly.
Baking sheets can also be used
for roasting vegetables or
cooking other savory dishes in
the oven.
A Jelly roll pan is a flat, rimmed
baking sheet used to make
sponge cakes that can be rolled
into a cylinder. These pans can
also be used for brownies, bars,
and pies. The pan is 10 inches
by 15 inches with a one-inch lip
itself.

A frying pan, frypan, or skillet is

a flat-bottomed pan used for
frying, searing, and browning
foods. It is typically 20 to 30 cm
(8 to 12 in) in diameter with
relatively low sides that flare
outwards, a long handle, and no
lid. Larger pans may have a
small grab handle opposite the
main handle. A pan of similar
dimensions, but with less flared,
more vertical sides and often
with a lid, is called a sauté pan.
While a sauté pan can be used
as a frying pan, it is designed
for lower heat cooking.
Whisks are used to blend
ingredients together quickly or
to incorporate air into
ingredients such as egg whites
or heavy cream in order to
increase the volume of the
mixture
