WARNING

and do not place objects filled with liquids, such
as vases, on the apparatus.
As the main plug is used to disconnect the unit
from the mains, connect the unit to an easily
accessible AC outlet. Should you notice an
abnormality in the unit, disconnect the main plug
from the AC outlet immediately.
The unit is not disconnected from the AC power
source (mains) as long as it is connected to the
wall outlet, even if the unit itself has been turned
off.
Do not install the appliance in a confined space,
such as a bookcase or built-in cabinet.
Do not expose the batteries (battery pack or
batteries installed) to excessive heat such as
sunshine, fire or the like for a long time.

concerning safety are located on the bottom
exterior.

ˎˎReplace the batteries when the OPR/BATT indicator  dims, or when the unit becomes inoperable. Replace all
the batteries with new ones. Before you replace the batteries, be sure to remove any disc and disconnect any
USB device and any optional component from the unit.
ˎˎTo use the unit on batteries, disconnect the AC power cord from the unit and the wall outlet.
ˎˎWhen you operate the unit on batteries, you cannot turn on the unit using the remote.
About the power-management function (Only for Europe models)
A power-management function is installed in this unit. With this function, the unit enters standby mode
automatically after about 15 minutes when there is no operation or audio signal output.

ˎˎThe message “AUTOSTBY” will flash on the display for about 2 minutes before entering standby mode.
ˎˎWhen the unit is in standby mode with the AC power cord connected, “STANDBY” appears on the display.
ˎˎThe power-management function is not available for the radio.
Preparing the remote
Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries (not supplied).
To replace batteries
With normal use, the batteries should last for about 6 months. When the remote no longer operates the
unit, replace both batteries with new ones.

Listening to music wirelessly
on a BLUETOOTH device
Using the BLUETOOTH connection, you can listen
to music from wirelessly connected BLUETOOTH
devices such as mobile phones, smartphones,
music players, etc.
This unit supports non-NFC compatible
BLUETOOTH devices (hereafter “BLUETOOTH
device(s)”) and NFC-compatible smartphones.
Compatible BLUETOOTH devices
Compatibility requirements for the devices are as
follows. Before using with this unit, check that
your device meets the requirements.
ˎˎDevices must conform to BLUETOOTH Standard
version 3.0.
ˎˎDevices must support A2DP (Advanced Audio
Distribution Profile) and AVRCP (Audio/Video
Remote Control Profile).
ˎˎNFC capability (required only when using the
NFC pairing function of the unit).

Pairing
BLUETOOTH devices must be “paired” with each
other beforehand. Once BLUETOOTH devices are
paired, there is no need for pairing again, unless
pairing information is cleared. With this unit, up
to 5 BLUETOOTH devices can be paired.
If your device is an NFC-compatible smartphone,
the manual pairing procedure is not necessary.
Use the smartphone with this unit along with the
procedures described under “To connect with a
smartphone by one touch (NFC).”
When using the BLUETOOTH function, pay
attention to the BLUETOOTH status indicator ( )
on the display, which shows the network status
between the unit and your device.

Keep the BLUETOOTH device and the unit within

the first time, this unit will automatically enter the
pairing mode and the BLUETOOTH indicator ( )
will start flashing.
3 Perform the pairing procedure on the
BLUETOOTH device.
Turn on the BLUETOOTH device and activate
the BLUETOOTH function on your device. For
details, refer to the instruction manual of your
BLUETOOTH device.
When the BLUETOOTH function of your device
is activated, it will search for pairable devices
and display a list of detected devices on its
display. Select this unit from the list. This unit
appears as “SONY:ZS-BTG905.”
If “SONY:ZS-BTG905” is not displayed, repeat
the procedure from step 2.
If a passcode is required
Some BLUETOOTH devices may require a
4-digit passcode. If your device requires a
passcode, enter “0000.”
When pairing of the device is completed and
the BLUETOOTH connection is established, the
BLUETOOTH indicator ( ) stops flashing and
“BT AUDIO” appears on the display.
If you want to pair with another BLUETOOTH
device, repeat steps 2 to 3.
Notes on pairing with a BLUETOOTH device
ˎˎIf you turn off the unit or power off the
BLUETOOTH device before the BLUETOOTH
connection is established, pairing information will
not be stored, and pairing will not be completed.
ˎˎPairing mode is canceled after about 5 minutes. If
pairing mode is canceled before completion, start
over from step 2.
ˎˎThe operation and display may differ depending
on the BLUETOOTH device or the version of
BLUETOOTH software installed.
ˎˎ“Passcode” may be called “Passkey,” “PIN code,”
“PIN number” or “Password,” etc., depending on
the BLUETOOTH device. For details on the
passcode, refer to the instruction manual of your
device.
To connect with a smartphone by one
touch (NFC)
By touching the unit with an NFC-compatible
smartphone, the unit is turned on automatically,
and then proceeds to complete pairing and the
BLUETOOTH connection automatically.

(OS: Android 2.3.3 or later, excluding Android 3.x)
Folder and file generation rules
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology
enabling short-range wireless communication
between various devices, such as mobile phones
and IC tags. Thanks to the NFC function, data
communication can be achieved easily just by
touching the designated touchpoint on the
NFC-compatible devices.
1 Set the NFC function of the smartphone
to on.
For details, refer to the operating instructions
supplied with the smartphone.
ˎˎIf your smartphone OS is Android 2.3.3 or
later, and less than Android 4.1: proceed to
step 2.
ˎˎIf your smartphone OS is Android 4.1 or later:
proceed to step 4.
2 Download and install the app “NFC Easy
Connect” on the smartphone.
“NFC Easy Connect” is an original app by Sony
for Android phones, and is available at Google
Play Store.
Search for “NFC Easy Connect” or scan the
following two-dimensional code to download
and install the free app. Communication fees
are required to download the app.
The App may not be available in some
countries and/or regions.
Tip
For some smartphones, One-touch connection
may be available without downloading the app
“NFC Easy Connect.” In that case, the operation
and specifications may be different from the
description here. For details, refer to the
operating instructions supplied with the
smartphone.

Use a two-dimensional code reader app.
3 Start the app “NFC Easy Connect” on the
smartphone.
Make sure that the application screen is
displayed.
4 Touch the unit with the smartphone.
Keep touching the smartphone on the
N-marked part  of the unit until the
smartphone responds.
Note
If the screen of your smartphone is locked, the
smartphone will not function. In this case, release
the lock, then touch the smartphone on the
N-marked part  again.
Smartphone responds

After being recognized by the unit, follow the
on-screen instructions displayed on the
smartphone, and complete the procedure for
BLUETOOTH connection.
When the BLUETOOTH connection is
established, the BLUETOOTH indicator ( )
stops flashing and the message “BT AUDIO”
appears on the display.
Tip
If pairing and the BLUETOOTH connection fail, do the
following.
ˋˋRelaunch “NFC Easy Connect” and move the
smartphone slowly over the N-marked part .
ˋˋRemove the case from the smartphone if using a
commercially available smartphone case.
To use the BLUETOOTH standby
function
By using the BLUETOOTH standby function, the
unit can be turned on and operated by a
BLUETOOTH device.
When the unit is turned on, hold down 
 for at least 2 seconds.
The BLUETOOTH standby function is activated
and the unit turns off automatically. “BT
STANDBY” will light up on the display while the
unit is turning off.
To cancel the BLUETOOTH standby
function
When the unit is turned on, hold down  
for at least 2 seconds. The unit turns off, and no
indication will be displayed.
Notes
ˎˎThe BLUETOOTH standby function is not available
when you use the unit on batteries.
ˎˎThe BLUETOOTH standby function is available only
when this unit is turned off.
To listen to audio
Keep the BLUETOOTH device (or NFC-compatible
smartphone) and the unit within 10 meters of
each other, and check the following before
operation.
ˋThe
ˋ BLUETOOTH function of the device is
activated.
ˋPairing
ˋ and the BLUETOOTH connection are
completed correctly. If not, perform the pairing
procedure. (see “To pair with a BLUETOOTH
device” or “To connect with a smartphone by
one touch (NFC)”).
ĄĄFor a BLUETOOTH device
1 Press BLUETOOTH  to turn on the
BLUETOOTH function.
The last connected device will be connected
automatically.
2 Start playback of an audio source such as
music, videos, games, etc., on the device.
Refer to the instruction manual of your device
for details on playback operations.
ĄĄFor an NFC-compatible smartphone
Start playback of an audio source such as music,
videos, games, etc., on the smartphone.
Refer to the instruction manual of your
smartphone for details on playback operations.
Note
The BLUETOOTH function turns off when:
ˋˋyou press   to turn off the unit.
ˋˋyou switch to a function other than the
BLUETOOTH function.
Tip
If the volume level is low, adjust the volume of the
unit first. If the volume level is still too low, adjust
the volume level on the connected BLUETOOTH
device or the smartphone.
Tip for the BLUETOOTH devices
If the last connected device does not connect
automatically, try the following;
ˋˋpress CD, USB, RADIO FM/AM, AUDIO IN , or
restart the unit.
ˋˋthen, press BLUETOOTH  to turn on the
BLUETOOTH function again.
If it still does not connect, select the model name of
this unit from the device list (perform step 3 in “To
pair with a BLUETOOTH device”).
To terminate a BLUETOOTH
connection
You can terminate the BLUETOOTH connection
using any of the following operations.
ĄĄFor a BLUETOOTH device
ˎˎTurn off the unit.
ˎˎTurn off the device.
ˎˎPress CD, USB, RADIO FM/AM, or AUDIO IN .
ˎˎDisable the BLUETOOTH function on the device.
ĄĄFor an NFC-compatible smartphone
ˎˎTouch the smartphone to the N-marked part
 again.
ˎˎTurn off the unit.
ˎˎTurn off the smartphone.
ˎˎPress CD, USB, RADIO FM/AM, or AUDIO IN .
ˎˎDisable the BLUETOOTH function on the
smartphone.
Listening to the radio When a recording operation is first performed on
a USB device, a “MUSIC” folder is created in the
“ROOT” folder. Folders and files are generated

You can preset up to 30 radio stations, 20 for FM
and 10 for AM.

PRESET  until “AUTO” flashes on the
display.
3 Press ENTER  to store the station.
The stations are stored in memory from lower
frequencies to higher ones.

Setting the Sleep Timer
You can fall asleep while listening to the radio or
music from the connected device using the sleep
timer.
The unit turns off automatically after a preset
duration.
1 Play the music source you want.
2 Press SLEEP  repeatedly to select the
sleep time duration.
Each time you press the button, the indication
changes as follows:
AUTO* 60MIN 30MIN
OFF 10MIN 20MIN
* For the CD or USB function, the unit turns off
automatically when playback finishes or after
90 minutes. When using the BLUETOOTH, radio
or AUDIO IN function, the unit turns off after 90
minutes.
The sleep time duration is displayed for a few
seconds, then the display returns to the
previous indication. When the setting
becomes effective, the display will dim and
the light sync function will turn off.
When the preset time has passed, the unit
turns off automatically.
Note
Music playback on a device connected to the
AUDIO IN jack does not stop automatically. To
stop playback on the connected device, operate
the connected device.
To cancel the sleep function
Press SLEEP  repeatedly to select “OFF.”
Connecting optional
components
You can enjoy the sound from an optional
component, such as a portable digital music
player, through the speakers of this unit.
Be sure to turn off the power of each component
before making any connections.
For details, refer to the instruction manual of the
component to be connected.

Discs that this unit CAN play
ˎˎAudio CD (CD-DA*1 tracks)
ˎˎCD-R/CD-RW that contains MP3/WMA files and
is finalized*2 correctly.
*1 CD-DA is the abbreviation for Compact Disc Digital
Audio. It is a recording standard used for audio
CDs.
*2 Finalizing is the process to make the CD-R/CD-RW
discs playable on the consumer disc player
products, and the finalizing can be enabled or
disabled as optional settings during disc creation
in most recording software.
Discs that this unit CANNOT play
ˎˎCD-R/CD-RW other than those recorded in
audio CD format or formats conforming to ISO
9660 Level 1/Level 2 or Joliet
ˎˎCD-R/CD-RW of poor recording quality, CD-R/
CD-RW with scratches or that is dirty, or CD-R/
CD-RW recorded using an incompatible
recording device
ˎˎCD-R/CD-RW that is unfinalized or finalized
incorrectly
Notes on discs
ˎˎBefore playing, clean the CD with a
cleaning cloth. Wipe the CD from
the center out. If there are
scratches, dirt or fingerprints on
the CD, a tracking error may occur.
ˎˎDo not use solvents such as
benzine, thinner, commercially
available cleaners or anti-static
spray intended for vinyl LPs.
ˎˎDo not expose the CD to direct sunlight or heat
sources such as hot air ducts, or leave it in a car
parked in direct sunlight as there can be a
considerable rise in temperature inside the car.
ˎˎDo not stick paper or a sticker on the CD, or
scratch the surface of the CD.
ˎˎAfter playing, store the CD in its case.
Note on DualDiscs
ˎˎA DualDisc is a two sided disc product which
mates DVD recorded material on one side with
digital audio material on the other side.
However, since the audio material side does
not conform to the Compact Disc (CD)
standard, playback on this product is not
guaranteed.
Music discs encoded with copyright
protection technologies
ˎˎThis product is designed to playback discs that
conform to the Compact Disc (CD) standard.
Recently, various music discs encoded with
copyright protection technologies are
marketed by some record companies. Please
be aware that among those discs, there are
some that do not conform to the CD standard
and may not be playable by this product.
On safety
ˎˎAs the laser beam used in the CD player
section is harmful to eyes, do not attempt to
disassemble the casing. Refer servicing to
qualified personnel only.
ˎˎShould any solid object or liquid fall into the
unit, unplug the unit, and have it checked by
qualified personnel before operating it any
further.
ˎˎDiscs with non-standard shapes (e.g., heart,
square, star) cannot be played on this unit.
Attempting to do so may damage the unit. Do
not use such discs.
On power sources
ˎˎFor AC operation, use the supplied AC power
cord; do not use any other cord.
ˎˎUnplug the unit from the wall outlet if it is not
to be used for an extended period of time.
ˎˎWhen not using the batteries, remove them to
avoid damage that can be caused by battery
leakage or corrosion.
On placement
ˎˎDo not leave the unit in a location near heat
sources, in a place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or mechanical shock, or in a car
subject to the direct rays of the sun.
ˎˎDo not place the unit on an inclined or
unstable surface.

“LIGHT SYNC DEMO MODE” appears on
the display.
ˎˎWith the unit turned on, set the automatic
demonstration off by pressing MODE  until
“DEMO MODE OFF” appears on the display.
The unit does not turn on when the AC
power cord is connected.
ˎˎMake sure the AC power cord is connected to
the wall outlet securely.
The unit does not turn on during battery
operation.
ˎˎMake sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
There is no sound.
ˎˎMake sure the appropriate function is selected
for the music or sound source you want to
listen to.
The sound is noisy.
ˎˎIs someone using a mobile phone or other
equipment emitting radio waves near the unit?
If so, move the unit and the BLUETOOTH device
away from such devices. Devices such as
mobile phones, etc., can affect BLUETOOTH
communication.
CD/MP3/WMA player
The CD player does not play or “NO DISC”

ˎˎPlace the CD with the label side up.
ˎˎClean the CD.
ˎˎTake out the CD and leave the CD
compartment open for about an hour to dry
any condensation.
ˎˎThe CD-R/CD-RW may be blank or unfinalized.
ˎˎThere are no playable MP3/WMA files on the
disc.
ˎˎThere is a problem with the quality of the
CD-R/CD-RW, recording device or application
software.
ˎˎReplace all the batteries with new ones if they
are exhausted.
The sound drops out (stops briefly).
ˎˎReduce the volume.
ˎˎClean the CD, or replace it if the CD is badly
damaged.
ˎˎPlace the unit in a location free from vibrations.
ˎˎClean the audio laser lens with a commercially
available blower.
ˎˎThe sound may drop out or noise may be
heard when using a poor quality CD-R/CD-RW
or if there is a problem with the recording
device or application software.

BLUETOOTH device
There is no sound.

ˎˎCheck that the BLUETOOTH connection was
completed properly between this unit and the
BLUETOOTH device (or smartphone).
ˎˎPerform pairing again (see “To pair with a
BLUETOOTH device”).
ˎˎKeep away from metal objects or surfaces.
ˎˎMake sure that the BLUETOOTH function is
activated on the BLUETOOTH device (or
smartphone).

The sound skips or the correspondence
