Waste Disposal
Waste Disposal
Organic Waste Converter (OWC) is installed at Metro Bhawan and Metro Enclave which transforms food
waste into compost. Conversion time for 10 kg waste to compost is 15 minutes. Then, this raw compost is
placed for curing for next 10 days. After 10 days of curing, matured compost is available which can be used
in horticulture activities of DMRC.
at some depots of DMRC to treat organic waste. This bio-degradable waste generated at DMRC depots and
colonies were sent to nearest compost pits for its treatment. These are presently constructed at four locations
viz. Shastri Park Depot, Mundka Depot, Sarita Vihar Depot and Yamuna Bank Depot.
A Bio-gas plant has been installed at Shastri Park depot to convert organic waste in to bio-gas and manure.
The plant is first of its kind in DMRC.
Organic waste generated from DMRC facilities at Shastri Park viz Depot canteen, colonies and hostels will
be utilised in this plant to generate bio gas. The plant has a capacity to process 1000 kg of organic waste per
day and convert it into 80-90 n.cum of bio-gas which would then be supplied to depot canteen for cooking
purpose. This will save approximately 10,000 litres of cooking gas per annum. In addition to bio-gas, the
plant also produces manure which would be used for horticulture works.
